I wonder if Spielberg asked him to "rattle off a main theme for him" - im sure a team of plebs could be found to take that theme and convert it into a full score of incidental music? Williams still seems very bright and its usually energy levels at that age, because every part of you, including your heart, is 90 years old too.

JW may have composing retirement in his blood but music is as much in his blood as it was in 1900 so there is always the possibility of a crimp in said retirement. You mean, make a comeback when he's 96, Howard?

John Williams recent comment on his retirement: “I don’t care much for grand pronunciamentos, statements that are firm and finished and surrounded by closed doors. If I made one without putting it in context then I withdraw it. If a film came along that I was greatly interested in, with a schedule that I could cope with, then I wouldn’t want to rule anything out. Everything is possible. All is before us. Only our limitations are holding us back. Or, to put it more simply: I like to keep an open mind.” So glad to see him say this! And I love that he used the word "pronunciamentos"

And of course, he made no such firm statement about retirement in the first place — and this is his graceful way of pointing that out. Yavar

Great composers don't retire. They keep on going, upto the last fence.

"At this rate...he will compose and conduct a new Olympic fanfare in 2028 for the LA games" -------------------------- THIS would be amazing!! We can but hope.
