Disney uploaded the full Stop Wade! sequence featuring Newman's score to YouTube:

I love how his music works in context here, even if Elemental is nowhere near one of my favorites by the composer.

I picked out 16 tracks (what I call keepers) when I first played through this score and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.
This might go on to be my favourite Indian flavored Thomas Newman score.
Sublime.

Just out of interest... What are your 16 tracks?

I was a little unsure on first listen because it's so broad and bursting with sounds, but it's a stunning score now I've had time with it. I just love it. Surely it's nomination 16? Any idea what his next big project will be after White Bird?

Wasn't keen at first but like others grew to love it with repeat listenings.

Final week of the movie playing at our local cinema so I'm definitely going to catch it.

delightful film, very creative and dreamlike, colorful like we do not see much anymore.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

A BIG surprise in this score is the track A LONELY MAN AWASH IN SADNESS.
When I saw that track title, I went HO YES, that's gonna be SO LOVELY & DREAMY, Thomas Newman style.
And, it so...WASN'T!!!

I have to say, while I love the music, I thought the film was pretty lame.
Yes, it was colourful, but the characters were terrible, with zero chemistry wink between them and the story was lazy and contrived...and overlong for such a threadbare plot.
Pixar have really dropped off in quality for me these days, when compared to their earlier years.
And I had to suffer those dreaded words..."Grandad!! I'm bored!! This is rubbish!" from the G-ids.
So it wasn't just me underwhelmed.

I think I've only bought 2 of his, since he got the bond gig. One I (still) think is shit, the other decidedly average. So I have tended to swerve away from him (unfortunately).

Hmmmm.
I was underwhelmed by 1917. I only liked about 5 tracks.
But I grew to love TOLKIEN after seeing the film (I was cool on it beforehand).

There's a little hope for Tolkien, if and when I go back to it, it just didn’t make me want to keep playing it. The other no chance . I gave it a few plays but no luck.

71 minutes later: without context I felt like I just sat through one of those banal, "feel-good" documentaries on community sponsored, public housing refurbishment or maybe one about the challenges of Colorado river restoration in the wake of the climate crisis.

I'm a big fan of Newman's work, and this is really growing on me with repeated listens, especially some specific tracks and I think it works really well in context of the film.

Really hopeful it leads to his 16th Nomination - and hopefully his first win! Seems like he has nothing new on the horizon other than White Bird unless he's working on something(s) and it's not been announced.

I wonder if Thomas Newman will get his 16th Oscar nomination for this score?

What do people here think? Oppenheimer will probably win the award, but I think Newman should have a good chance of getting nominated at least.

This may be early, but Indiewire's score predictions doesn't even list Newman as a likely contender -

Frontrunners:

“Barbie”
“Killers of the Flower Moon”
“Oppenheimer”
“Past Lives”
“Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse”

Contenders:

“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”
“Napoleon”
“Next Goal Wins”
“Nyad”
“Poor Things”
“Saltburn”
“Society of the Snow”
“The Color Purple”
“The Holdovers”
“The Killer”
“The Zone of Interest”
“Wish”

I have trouble seeing how all these obscure titles could be contenders, but NOT Newman...

My guess is several these will be disqualified because they use music from other sources (BARBIE, KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON, THE COLOR PURPLE).

They really shouldn't be predicting score nominations without seeing the film/hearing the score and what its makeup is beforehand.

I'm hoping that nearer the time that Disney campaign to support a Newman nomination. The more time I spend with this score the more I absolutely love it. It feels like real music and it would be lovely to see that recognised. Newman is 67 now, surely needs to be rewarded for his body of word sooner or later.

Seems like things have gone quiet about future work, not sure how many more we'll get to enjoy. We have the long delayed White Bird, but not sure if there's anything on the horizon after that.
