Intrada released Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves in 2020 as well.

I think these guys may have had more to do with it than Warners:
See also Renegades,Stay Tuned, and Wrongfully Accused.

So, if my calculations are correct - "just" 30:37 min of previously unreleased music (including Chaplin own themes). smile
Can't wait!

I can't actually work out how much of it is unreleased from the track listing. For example, I assume Tracks 2 and 3 are mostly the same as Track 33 (Track 2 on the original CD), and Tracks 6 and 7 are the same as Track 34 (Track 4 on the original CD), except for a few seconds here and there. Some of the others seem to be retitled eg. Track 16 was originally ‘News Of Hetty’s Death/Smile’ (see 35 - Track 9 on the original). I'm also guessing Track 32 is the Downey Jr song version of Smile. It appears to me there's more like around 15 minutes unreleased but I could be wrong. In saying that, it will obviously be good to hear it.

For me, this is as much about improving the sound (let's hope the sound is improved!) as it is about presenting unreleased music. That original CD sounded pretty bad.

The original album ran about 49 minutes, so yeah, 15 minutes of extra material (minus the original album suites) sounds about right.
I'm sure the sound will be improved upon the old 1993 edition, with today's tech available.

Out of Africa
And yes The Specialist

…AND on Chaplin’s Cue of Charlie go to the US…it sounds different …I like it…I think it is the Film Version…Great work.

Looking so much forward to this special edition!

Unfortunately, this score - while one I always enjoyed a lot - had been relegated to the back of my collection.

The news of this expanded release made me listen to the album again - and, wow, what an enchanting delight. The main theme is, IMO, one of the most haunting melodies Barry has ever written.

Pure score magic.

Those Epic CDs in the 1990s sounded flat to me, and Barry had a penchant for over-emphasising the melancholy selections from his scores on those CDs.

Although the 1992 Chaplin CD did actually do quite a good job of including some of the more updeat and comedic elements.

I believe the remastering, and the airing of the whole score, not just part of it, will reveal the score to be more dynamic and varied than people remember from the 1992 CD.

It really is a lovely blend of, yes, introspection and melancholy, but also levity, comedy, hope and triumph.

Introspection and melancholy are, of course, a John Barry forté, and he does it here as well as he ever did it.

But mixing that with comedy, hope, and triumph, lifts it above other Barry scores from the same period.

I love Barry as much as anyone — you guessed, right? — but you'd have to be a sycophant to not concede that Barry's musical range became frustratingly smaller and more predictable in those post-Dances years.

This, though, has that variety, and particularly evokes his delightful 1974 score, THE DAY OF THE LOCUST.

I hope people really discover this score again.

Cheers

Post Dances, I feel Barry came up with some really lovely work. As well as Chaplin we had The Specialist, Across the Sea Of Time, Playing By Heart, Cry the Beloved Country, Enigma, Swept From The Sea. + the non soundtrack works. The Beyondness Of Things and Eternal Echoes. Ruby Cairo is an awful film but Barry gave it a strong score.

Inevitably he didn't show the range of work that he did in the 60s, but Barry had changed as we all do over 30 years.

We are e so fortunate to have got the 90s scores. Barry came close to death in 1988 when his oesophagus ruptured. Masquerade could have been his final score.

I’m so looking forward to it. The 30+ minutes of Unreleased music will be a joy. It’s my favourite film score of his post DWW period.

Thank the soundtrack gods...

THIS SOUNDS WONDERFUL!!!

The strings are grand, weighty and silky smooth, the jazz elements shoot out and strike you over the head, the piano could be it he same room. This is Chaplin the way it should always have sounded. Eternal thanks to everyone involved.

I don't want to be *that* person, but please LLL rescue the rest of Barry's 90s "Epic label" sonic fiascos from their gloomy corners. Can you imagine what The Specialist could sound like?

One of my favourite Barry's. A pleasure to listen to at last.

Agreed, owning a sonorously remastered edition of THE SPECIALIST is one of my few remaining holy grails.
