Do people want an expansion of KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL as well, or is the stink from that film just too much to deal with?

That score has lots of great tracks missing from the original release, so yeah! Bring it on!

Just last week Roger chimed in, in my "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" score thread about doing releases of the music, saying that at the moment its not possible because the studios isn't sure what they are going to do with the property. I assume this translates over to the original trilogy scores as well.

Hopefully they will sort it out to coincide with the new movie as they did with Willow last year? Or was that just timing?

Hi, longtime lurker but first-time poster to FSM. Is it true that the previous Indy CD set was in the incorrect pitch? I hope any future editions would correct this oversight.

From what I understand Raiders is the only one at the wrong pitch. The other two scores are correct.

Despite the incorrect PITCH, the sound is far better than the DCC. Kind of annoyed that they used the album edit of The Desert Chace, but can live with that.

TOD is the one that suffered the most. It appears to have used different mixes. The original Botnix mix for album tracks and the new one for the expanded tracks. That's why "Short Round Helps" sounds so off, when immediately following "Slave Children's Crusade." That and the absence of the film assembly of Finale and End Credits as well as the insert for "Map". Just sounds like something is really missing from that...Willie Scotts Theme.

Otherwise, the choice of expanded tracks were perfect. Only needed Fortune and Glory and I'm fine without the rest.

The Last Crusade IMHO sounds great!

Hummm... interesting, because I LOVE the DCC mix by Steven Hoffman in keeping with Eric Tomlinson's vibrant film mix of the score! It just feels more dynamic and less toyed around with. The LSO brass sounds incredible on the DCC album.

Than it's a win-win for each of us, eh? :-)

Don't know what they used on the Concord but the DCC was taken from a 2nd Gen 2-track source and just sweetened by Hoffman (whom I'm NOT a fan of personally).

According to Steve, he used "the original two-track Abbey Road mixes." And yes, he admits that he didn't do much in mastering but give it some body "with a special vacuum tube insert stage", whatever that means.

I remember doing a comparison with the DCC and the film playback on the blu ray video and found the mix identical. The Concorde is mastered using the the upgrade in the technology so it does sound super bright and neat. The mixes are more John Neil and Shawn Murphy. Just check and compare the cue 'Map Room' cue- The choir/voices are more prominent on the album mix and the snares are more upfront on the DCC.

Depending on your mood both are keepers. Although I'm more partial to Concorde because of the extra cues!

Does anyone own the original vinyl release of Raiders?
The depth and layers of instruments heard is stunning.
'The Map' is a particular standout with the choirs presence really standing out.
You can hear individual voices within the choir.
Highly recommended.

My 1981 Raiders LP suffers from years AND mileage, so I listen to the Polydor Japan gold disc instead; I'm wondering how much *that* release differs from the LP.

I got plenty of wear out of my old 1981 RAIDERS LP too, from the time when vinyl listening was all there was (apart from cassette's...but I preferred LPs).
But I'd never go back to that way of listening, after CD's came along later on in the 80s.
I have the CD re-issue of the edited RAIDERS LP, plus the DCC expansion AND the version within the Concord box set.
I've been happy enough with those all down the years.

I bet somehow, some way, one label company can still make it better. Two very different releases of The Wrath of Khan (Including a bonus track on the 50th) and still there's that La-La Land release that blows them all out of the water. I for one hope that day comes.

Let’s ask Mike Matessino

Say Mike, what news or info about addressing the Indiana Jones and Star Wars Collectors Edition..Where Everything is Tempo Right..Cleaned Up and so on!

And also Mike tell the great people here…When The Holy Grail of All Holy Grails …The Sugarland Express? And The Expanded Reiver’s. Lol.

Wait…Think on one of Legacy’s of John Williams, in 2022 ..That Mike Matessino said that Star Wars Music was being talked about! Right?

I have the old 1981 LP, the DCC Extended 2XLP as well as the Concord 2XLP ! Its a shame that TEMPLE OF DOOM & LAST CRUSADE didn't get the same treatment. But I hope this situation changes when Indy 5 comes out this year.

It's frustrating isn't it...

How such important scores as the Indiana Jones scores, and the Star Wars scores, and most of the James Bond scores, for that matter, remain immune from the kind of treatment they deserve.

How all we can have is editions with issues.

Just imagine what someone like La-La Land records could do with those if they got the ability to.

I pray, probably in vain, to the soundtrack Gods it may happen one day.

Cheers

This is exactly how I feel about it all. I’m no expert on the insides of the soundtrack business nor do I have any idea of what’s going going to be released. It just bums me out that so many of these great scores seem to elude new releases. Especially when you think about how they might just be collecting dust in a vault somewhere.

I do have an original Columbia LP but its an incredibly beat up copy I got at a library rummage sale so I cannot vouch for the sound quality.
