THE EXORCIST would be a memory from my past, hearing that theme on the radio multiple times a day back then.
Twilight Zone TV series? I hope it's the Constant, not the new TV series. Too bad it's not the Herrmann. (and too back nobody ever did the Herrmann Suspense theme!)

Looks like The Twilight Zone is the Marius Constant version. So that means if I buy the 5 pieces I like individually they'll cost as much as the print book. So prolly I'll go for the book.

Bump!

A Goldsmith piece and none of the Jerriphiles are commenting?

Here's a bit of a curiosity. I love Richard Rodney Bennett's score for Far From the Madding Crowd, but while tracking down the sheet music, I found there was an earlier sheet published (with the same movie artwork), but with a theme by a different composer (Cyril Ornadel). I assume it was from a score jettisoned at the last minute. In any case, here's the Bennett theme -

The Cyril Ornadel song (with lyrics by Hal Shaper) appears to have been written to promote the film and was recorded in London at the time by Dick Haymes, according to these sleeve notes by Mr Shaper himself:

Is this the song version? It sounds a little different from what I'm remembering from the song version I have.

I'll have to look at it again....

Michael, really love that you are doing this, and I've watched/listened to most of your videos.

But The Conversation so far is my favorite - in part because it was always a piano piece, but it does about the best job of translating the music to home playing of any that I've heard here. Some of the other arrangements are quite disappointing.

I find and transcribe some movie/tv themes for solo recorder (some things work that way, others don't - Charade does, for example, and The Pink Panther just doesn't). And I'm pounding my way through some Philip Glass and Bach - but now I think I'll have to find The Conversation sheet music!

Keep it up - it is great to see you doing this, and you're doing very well with all these numbers! Plus, this is a useful record of one small slice of the world of sheet music. Love it!

Thank you Sean! I'm so pleased you are finding some value in these posts. Yes, that occurred to me when I was posting The Conversation: since it was actually composed for piano it's a little more successful in terms of listenability (despite my non-professional skills). There have been a few like Jane Eyre, Blue Thunder, etc where I was a little disappointed by how spartan the arrangements were, but my goal 1st and foremost has been to offer some insight into what's published out there. It's been a fun archeological effort. Some have been disappointing discoveries: like The Vikings "Love theme" and "The Lion In Winter" turning out to be boring waltz versions. While some others which I didnt think would translate well to the piano like the percussion-heavy "Where Eagles Dare" actually sound great!

Regarding you transcribing and playing themes on recorder: sounds cool!

Hi David - nope, both the Richard Rodney Bennett theme and the Cyril Ornadel sheet music I have contain no lyrics.

Have you recorded Where Eagles Dare? I can't find it in your YouTube account.

No not yet - just citing an example. I intend to sometime though! I think it’s a fun one

Good for you for doing something musical that is not just spinning cd's while eating pizza, french fries or ice cream out of the box!

I haven't looked closely at mine, but I seem to recall it was the main title theme. But in waltz time? I'll look again.

Yeah, Lion in Winter is the main title theme, but in a waltz arrangement that robs it of any gravity. It’s bizarre

I thought it would be fun to post the rest of The Hobbit pieces from the old songbook. I was surprised the album contained the unused song "Old Fat Spider"

There's a shortage of electronic scores published as sheet music. This is one of my favorites -

I thought Tarantino's "Death Proof" was enjoyable enough, but I'm particularly grateful that the movie's use of this wonderful theme gave way to the sheet music finally being published.

Gorgeous! Thank you so much, Michael, for all your videos. Excellent performances. I've enjoyed all of them enormously and have discovered more than one beautiful theme I didn't know. Thank you!
