No After the sunset, no 70's disco jazz albums, no Gypsies album, The liquidator missing Riviera chase, Kelly's heroes missing Quick draw Kelly, etc... Not surprise, Lerouge did the same with Morricone and Williams. They are very nice thing to have but they don't know how to handle them. PITY !

Too many jazz tracks takes the place of essential score tracks.

This Box is from 2016 so why the hype 2024 ??
Unfortunately everything on it has already been released...so I´ll passed in 2016 and will pass again.
For a brief moment I was really excited that this thread was about unreleased stuff....damn

It was a big mistake not to include those albums !

No Coogan's bluff, no Caveman, no The dead pool, no Planet of the apes, etc. Why not pick-up those main titles instead of complete jazz tracks ?

Perhaps because the complete jazz albums included are remarkable testaments to Schifrin's compositional mastery, and that, unlike many if not most film composers, Schifrin has a life and career beyond film music that connects to a larger audience.

Others beyond the rarified film music kingdom might wonder why movie music tunes are included on the set.

Those soundtracks have all been released, so those people complaining about the lack of new material would still be complaining. Now if you had said "The Neptune Factor", "Prime Cut, or even - Heaven forbid! - "When Time Ran Out..." (Schifrin's least interesting score?)...

Lerouge never pick up the best tracks. Look what he put for The liquidator, Kelly's heroes, etc .Don't put every tracks but put the best ones. And instead of every titles from a score add main titles like Coogan's bluff, Escape to Athena, Caveman, Planet of the apes, etc. It is supposed to give people an overview of his talent and career. Why nothing from his 70's disco funk albums ? Why not the rejected score to the Exorcist ? Why not the expanded Enter the dragon edition ? This is a 16 cds box, don't tell me there was no way to included most of all this. It is something that when somebody buy he won't have to get other compilations to have his best music. Some 2 cd sets are sometime excellent to give the best. Just recall Un film, una musica lp by Ennio Morricone. Anyway, Lerouge made the same mistakes on his Morricone and Williams box. I am sure he would fail the final exam in a film score course.

I have looked closely at the first 10 discs of this set.

Here's the short-hand version:

The first 2 discs are a jaw-dropping sampling of Schifrin's versatile talents as a jazz composer and arranger.

There are 2 tracks from his Grammy winning album by organist Jimmy Smith--The Cat.

Another Jimmy Smith track from another album.

2 tracks from tenor saxophonist Stan Getz's album: Reflections

4 tracks from vibist Cal Tjader's Several Shades of Jade

3 tracks from Lalo's Between Broadway and Hollywood.

1 track from Lalo's and trombonist Bob Brookmeyer's Samba Para Dos.

2 tracks from alto great Johnny Hodges's Buenos Aires Blues.

3 tracks from Lalo's Piano, Strings, and Bossa Nova

2 tracks from Lalo's 70s funk album La Clave

"Lalo's Bossa Nova" could either be his recording or Quincy Jones's version.

"The Haunting" is inspired by the film and appeared as an extra on Goldsmith's MGM album, The Prize and Other Themes.

"Dialogues for Quintet and Orchestra" (great piece) is from the 69 Cannonball Adderley album Experiment in E.

1 track from Al Hirt's Latin in the Horn.

Disc 3: 1-5 Dizzy Gillespie's Gillespiana. Track 6 is a live Dizzy track. 7-10 are 4 of 6 tracks from the great Dizzy album The New Continent from 1962.

Disc 4: 1-8 Dizzy's Free Ride (77). Track 9 could be a live version from the Gillespiana album.

Disc 5: Mission: Impossible and More Mission: Impossible

Disc 6: Mannix and Murderer's Row.

Disc 7: Bullitt and Cool Hand Luke

Disc 8: Once a Thief and Schifrin/Sade.

Disc 9: There's a Whole Lalo Schifrin Going On and Rock Requiem

Disc 10: Tracks from Dirty Harry, Magnum Force, Sudden Impact, and Dead Pool.
