Fantastic!...ordered....and looking forward to the GOLDSMITH ODYSSEY POT CASTwink

Today I’ve been trying to work out the scheduling and what guests will be on it. Not sure yet how soon we will record but I think it’ll be worth the wait.

Yep. It is. Already ordered.

Excellent, sorry, my browser on my iPad is playing up for the International site, how much is it inc pp.

I was tempted by the offer of both THE OTHER and SUDDEN DEATH so I got both for £27.00 with £4.99 P&P. As a single order THE OTHER is £16.00 + P&P. Cheers

Wonderful and thank you, ordered via the Int Store came to £20.99, not bad. Fingers crossed this is not damaged on arrival.

But this costing is for Digital only files right? Not an actual CD surely? I paid £15 so I'm expecting an email with the MP3

16 quid for the CD, stravinsky - unless I'm missing something obvious.

Hi Graham I'm sure it canny be that price. Ah wisnae charged any postage either so pretty sure it's a download mate. I'm Raymie fae Glesga btw. I remember talking to you on the group Zoom calls we had during the Pandemic. I wish we could do those again it was fun. Hope you are well anyway mate. I'm looking fwd to this release of "The Other" as well as the Pursuit Crowdfunded thing. One of my all time favourites fae this era is Escape from the Planet of the Apes. Canny get enough 70s Goldsmith. Thing is though when it comes to his 90s stuff I lose interest. I think filmmaking had changed radically & so did Jerry's style. Cheers R

Aye, ah mind ye Raymie frae the Zooms. Braw days under lockdoon!

But if you can allow me to adopt a "voice that isnae the real me", may I ask you how it's possible to not know what you're getting from the UK site? Seems clear that it's 16 pounds for the CD. "Shipping" (as they say) is calculated once you confirm your order. Apparently.

Anyway, I gave the old Varese a spin last night, for the first time in ages. It's a good score, very good, and the "less-than-stellar" presentation now seems in hindsight like a mere teaser for what will be! Looking mighty forward to this. It's from just about the peak of the composer's most fertile period - although he was on a consistent high for much longer than a decade. I also listened to the old CD's "main attraction" - THE MEPHISTO WALTZ. What an absolutely stunning score that is!

Hi Graham. I'm talking mince cos I paid $15 not £15 sterling and it's a download I got from the Varese website. Funnily enough I'm half way through watching the Mephisto Waltz right now for the first time. Canny wait for it to finish. Yet another shite movie scored by Jerry G. The score is remarkable but just a bit too out there for me to actually listen to. I've got the old Varese CD with the Suite from The Other. Mephisto is just too disturbing a listen for me. No doubt you've watched the old documentary footage of Goldsmith recording the Mephisto score where he says he canny understand where he gets these sick ideas fae. The guy was a genius. Glad to say there are hardly any Goldsmith grails left for me now. 99.9% of his 70s output has been released. Yass!

"Lastly, we’re prepping a special Jerry Goldsmith tribute and panel discussion at this year’s Sleepy Hollow International Film Festival in Tarrytown, New York on October 10-13. The event will showcase a rare screening of one of the composer’s most beloved chillers to tie-in with the expanded upcoming CD release of its score. For more info, visit www.sleepyhollowfilmfest.com as the fall season approaches."

Is THE OTHER the score that was coming according to one of the last Jerry Goldsmith kickstarter updates?

I think the clue fits.

I bet dollars to doughnuts that Mr. Bruce Kimmel was instrumental in making this release happen.

Mayyybe...

Bruce has been surprisingly mum about this new release, considering it's one of his favorite Goldsmith scores and he very much wanted to put it out complete on his own Kritzerland label years ago, before discovering that thanks to the earlier album he produced for Varese they control it in perpetuity.

Got my shipping notice for The Other and Sudden Death!

Me too, so neener neener old boy!

Best VS surprise in quite awhile, I love the suite but never play it, being a nice weekend type of piece attached to the harder atonal Mephisto Waltz, absolute nighttime listening. And my copy is in that damn Varese horror box (sold the original disc off), and its so much work to locate, Ha!
Anyway, happy this was released doubling the suite run time. Excellent work for a good film I never bothered with the Twilight Time since it was an M&E track isolated.

Do we know anything about the alternate Main Title.

At this point, only that it exists. After the disc and booklet notes reach people's hands we'll know even more.

Tim Grieving will know, as he did the liner notes, but he's busy writing a big John Williams book.
And Chris Malone will know, as he restored the score, but he's probably busy mastering and restoring other goodies for us to savour.

I was on the fence (only a little bit) about ordering this CD, but when I saw Tim and Chris' name on the flyer blurb, I didn't hesitate no more.
A guarantee of quality for me.

I seem to recall an interview where the original concept of the score was discussed. Apparently, Jerry Goldsmith wanted the main theme to be whistled. I just wish I remembered where I read this.

That prospect is mildly intriguiging. But knowing and appreciating the filmas I do, I don't feel that any solo instrument (let alone the whistling of a presumed child) would adequately present that melody or open the picture nearly so poignantly or effectively as the brief, spare final result does.
