Universal is just filled with goodies, yet to see the light of day Would love Intrada or LalaLand looking into the possibility of releasing Hans Salter’s beautiful western score for BEND OF THE RIVER. The combination of James Stewart and director Anthony Mann gave us a number a western classics from the early to mid-50’s. You know I'm with you on that, Cody. Would love any Salter premieres that can happen, to be honest. So far though the only 1950s Universal stuff we've gotten from the labels has been 36.5 minutes of Jack Marshall's music for the TV series The Deputy: https://lalalandrecords.com/munsters-the-television-music-of-jack-marshall-with-the-deputy-wagon-train-the-virginian-limited-edition-2-cd-set/ And I'm pretty sure it was revealed in the thread on this release that those cues came from the Jack Marshall estate or something, not Universal themselves. We've gotten a fair amount of Paramount stuff from the 1950s (that great packed 4CD set of 11 western premieres La-La Land put out a few years ago for example!) but I fear that the Universal archives in contrast just might not include much if any 30s-50s material (otherwise surely we'd have seen some of Rozsa's work for the studio by now?), and we're at the mercy of what can be salvaged from composer estates and maybe library holdings (for example what La-La Land was able to compile into their lovely release of the surviving original tracks from 1935's The Bride of Frankenstein by Franz Waxman). I'm much more hopeful of seeing more 60s/70s Universal stuff which has been the majority of the Universal Classics Collection so far. But for now I'll reiterate that I'm just so ecstatic to see one of Maurice Jarre's greatest orchestral 1980s scores premiered on album at last! Yavar

I remembered the Night Passage release, but in my head it was an early 60s score for some reason -- thanks for the correction Stefan! And yes that makes it very significant as the first 50s Universal score for which a film music specialty label has both licensed and received elements from Universal... correct? Hopefully there are more. Intrada and La-La Land have both been doing a great job mining gems (both premieres and expansions) from the Universal catalogue over the past several years... Quartet too! https://store.intrada.com/s.nl/it.A/id.13043/.f?sc=13&category=-113 Intrada announces the premiere release of one of Maurice Jarre's most requested scores: the Universal Pictures supernatural drama Resurrection (1980). The score is in pure Jarre tradition, composed for full orchestra. But Jarre's affinity for the American South also manifests in several ways: instrumentation (banjo, steel guitar, dulcimer and especially harmonica are all on display); source music, such as the bluegrass number for the picnic scene; and underscore, all to reconnect our main protagonist to her rural roots. Jarre develops most of his score from four distinct melodies, all of which liner note writer John Takis analyzes in the album's program notes. Listeners will be surprised by the wealth of music they haven't heard before. As Takis writes, "For all the thematic richness and emotional heft of Resurrection’s score, even listeners who have seen the film many times will have experienced a mere portion of what Jarre wrote and recorded. Much of his music was not used in the film, and other cues were either shortened or moved from their intended position." This release was produced and mastered by Chris Malone, who also mixed the original 24-track sessions that were stored at Universal in perfect condition. This long overdue release of Jarre's magnificent score, some 44 years after the film's release, could not sound better. The dramatic film, directed by Daniel Petrie, stars Ellen Burstyn as Edna McCauley, a woman who undergoes a profound spiritual transformation after a near-death experience. Following a car accident, Edna discovers she has the ability to heal others, which leads her to grapple with her newfound gift and its implications. As she helps those in need, she faces skepticism, personal struggles and moral dilemmas, ultimately seeking to understand the true meaning of her powers and her place in the world. The film explores themes of faith, healing, and the intersection of the physical and spiritual realms. TRACKLIST: THE SCORE 01. Resurrection (1:47) 02. Sad News (4:20) 03. Esco (3:57) 04.
