I haven't seen this mentioned on the "What's New in Your Collection?" threads yet. Are you nutmegs holding back on getting this? In three words - BUY DIS DISC! I managed to find time to hear the whole thing this morning. It's absolutely fabulous, amazing! Okay, the "March of the Amazons" might sound a trifle silly, and the "pew pew" effect that Gil was doing around that time (in BORDERLINE and THE INTRUDER WITHIN) may annoy some, but on the whole I was blown away by the level of inventiveness and sheer energy on display throughout. There's nothing quite like Mellé's string writing, and here it's amongst the best I've heard from him. The powerful brass too, those incredible jazz-infused groupings. Spectacular! As a Mellé nutcase who has actually "experienced" the music in the context of the, eh, "film", I didn't expect it to be even half as great as it turned out on CD. Did I tell you to BUY DIS DISC? Immense thanks to the guys at BSX for doing this.

Slackattack! Thanks to you, I heard this (nay - LISTENED TO) this three times today. Completely wonderful. I even almost "enjoyed" the "pew-pew" machine, as part of the whole eccentric tapestry. By the way, I spied on your earlier posts, and see that you waxed lyrical about Oliver Nelson's jazz albums, and the splendid CD release of DEATH OF A GUNFIGHTER/ SKULLDUGGERY. You have good taste, or at least bad taste that mirrors my own. I think I'll listen to THE INTRUDER WITHIN now. The pew-pew machine is even more in evidence in that one, but I've grown to embrace it.

This album arrived in the mail a few days ago, and I just have put it on the record -- this score is a freakin BLAST!! There are so many wonderful little surprises in every cue, and the whole thing GROOVES. INCREDIBLE music. I've been playing it all week and still can't get enough. It's on right now as I type this and honestly I'm just excited to play it back all over again! HIGHLY recommend this score to anyone who's thinking about checking it out. I'm glad you are enjoying it Ford A. Thaxton
