I saw this today over at http://www.jerrygoldsmithonline.com/news.html:

"In the last few months of his incredible life the composer spent time with his daughter documenting his wonderful career for a planned book project."

Interesting - was it to be an autobiography of sorts? That would be excellent if we could remembrances from the man himself!

I've seen the old postings and all of the issues surrounding a draft chapter and the complicated relationship between Goldsmith and his daughter. However it has been 13 since this biography was first mooted and since then there seems to have been no movement. Has anyone got in touch with the surviving Goldsmith children? When you consider the controversial books that have been published since 2004, I find it hard to believe that the fallout would be such that it can never see the light of day.

Wow, talk about a thread blast from the past! And what a way to re-open old wounds...

Ouch yes. Yet one still never knows. Can't go into details but the timing of this thread's resurrection is remarkable to me, personally. In a cautiously optimistic way.

What are y'all talking about???? Has something changed concerning the status of this aborted project?

Negative, JC. The respondent who brought this back is merely ruminating that many moons have passed since a halt was called to the project and as we know time has a way of healing wounds. FSNation was always in search of the man and his music, his daughter in search of the man and her father. Between the two there's a somewhat happy convergence yet a gap that needs to be bridged. Still.

There are a lot of Jerry Goldsmith fans here and elsewhere, most (if not all) of them are probably interested in reading Carrie Goldsmith's unique recollections of her legendary father. If this were ever to become published (in any form) I think there is money to be made. The excerpt online is excellent, and after all of these years (I most certainly read it the week it was published online) it still tantalizes. I would LOVE more. But it probably was never meant to be. Reviewing the history of this project, I will assume that - unless something extremely drastic has changed - the Goldsmith family still wishes to keep this written account of Jerry Goldsmith private.

If the main issues were legal matters related to names mentioned by Goldsmith, I'm sure something could've been (and still could be) worked out in editing. People don't need to be named, and there are creative ways to overcome this. Or those passages can be entirely deleted.

But I'm sure the legal matters aren't the only thing that held this back. Artists will stop projects for a variety of reasons. As much as I'd love to be wrong, my guess is that this will never make it out there.

Hopefully another book about Jerry Goldsmith will come to fruition.

Sorry to bring this back but it would be great if Carol Goldsmith reconsidered releasing this work of love with his father.

I would certainly interested on reading it.
