We hope this will be the first of many screenings we are able to do in tandem with our releases. We almost did one for Commando, but could not get it scheduled in time.

MV

how many units on this release - 3000 - 5000 ??????

That doesn`t matter anymore.

It does for LLL. Maybe not for Intrada now.

Oh man how I wish I could attend this! I should have moved to LA years ago....

If LLL does this for Hook, I might just buy a plane ticket wink

Back in my day, when you go to a theater and I watch an event movie like this, you would buy a movie program at the same place to remember the event. Imagine a new generation of audiences watching an event movie and buying a soundtrack CD at the time and at the same theater, as a momento of that event . I wish I was that new movie go-er.

MV, YOU HAVE TO WRITE A BLOG ABOUT THIS EVENT—from how you came up with this idea to the screening. I look forward to reading about it.

If he has the time that would be very cool.

As the CD being sold, its always puzzled me a bit that Soundtracks / Scores aren't sold at the Cinema. They would be bound to make enough to justify the additional effort and I'd have way more scores if they did.

The website says 118 minutes, so it's probably the theatrical cut.

I don't think of a film print of the extended cut exists; I think it was put together on video from various bits and pieces for the laserdisc.

I wonder who will be on the panel of guests. I'm friends with a guy who worked on the film and co-wrote the "Making of" book; I've heard a number of good stories over the years and seen some neat behind-the-scenes stuff.

To address some questions

3500 units

Yes, 1941 is a Titus work

As far as we know they never struck a film print of the extended version

The Hook screening is gonna be - - - wait a second. You trying to trick me?

Why I oughtta. . .

Great idea, MV! Wish I could be there to revel in a nice, warm film print. I miss them.

Just spotted the texture in the white part of the poster. Is that a photo of the poster itself or is the texture part of the digital version? It gives it a nice real feel.

Awesome! While I love some of the bits in the extended version, it does feel a bit long.

1941 was the very first laserdisc my brother got back in the early 1980s. I remember him showing me the disc and saying "You can eat off these things and they'll still play!"
An exaggeration , of course. But, at the time, it was the highest resolution for video and audio. I still fondly remember the brief animated bumper at the head of each side of each disc (it was a CAV disc - as an 11 year old I was blown away by the slow motion. mulit-speed and still frame functions).

Can't wait to see it on the big screen!

3500 copies only????
Then, will it be entirely sold out on 25 September?
No chance for the collectors other than the audience of screening?
How many seats there?

This screening has been getting some decent coverage. I've seen blurbs on The Digital Bits, Ain't It Cool News, and Blu-ray.com.

As for me... if only I hadn't moved back to the east coast four years ago!

La-La Land, Spielberg, Universal... surely there must be an interesting story as to how this all came about. smile

How many seats there?

The Silent Movie Theatre has 210 seats -- not big, but a cute venue, intimate and quite historic. It has been showing movies (I think) since the 1940s, it is privately owned and has been renovated a few times since then. I rented this theatre for the cast & crew screening of a short film I made a few years ago. The front rows have large leather seats like armchairs, and with the elevated stage and old fashioned popcorn machine in the lobby, it has a nice old timey feel.

I'd still like to know please if there'll be a limit as to how many CDs the patrons can buy at the screening. One per customer? Two? 5?

I want La La Land to get their money back on this venture and make a nice profit, and I know speculators will still buy more than one via websites. But if a limit is placed on how many units can be bought by one patron at the screening then it gives those of us who can't be there a better chance to buy the disc at the rrp.

"If 210 people can fit into the theater, and they each buy 10 units,
then there are still more than a thousand left for the rest of us!
I don't know what you're worried about!"

"Shit, Herb. The dummy's right."

MV won't have all the discs at the screening - there will be plenty to go round when the title goes on the web.

Yes, at 3500 it will likely sell fast, so get in there early.

Those worried about speculators grabbing the edition up - has anyone ever asked MV what's the most discs La La will allow an individual to buy? Perhaps he has set a limit?

The last film to be made with old style miniatures.

Not even close. Minatures have been used well into the 90's and beyond.

Visually spectacular but Spielberg's only box-office flop.

Nobody saw Munich or Empire Of The Sun.

You don't have a clue Mr Jack (off).

Miniatures are in fact widely used today but not like this. (Check out New Deal Studio)

And Spielberg never had a film panned this badly and tank at the box office this badly.

Do a little research before you comment .
Start with A. D. Flowers and then Howard Lydecker.

You're so ignorant there isn't a word for it.

P.S. It's a visual treat and well worth catching.

Tickets are bought!

It will also be a treat to (hopefully) meet some of the awesome folks from La La Land and thank them for all of their great CDs. And I will be playing their new 1941 release on the 1 mile drive back home afterwards.

The Silent Movie Theater is also the sight of a very famous Hollywood murder. I remember when it happened. It played out like an old fashioned film noir. Below is a link to the murder.
