With rumors circulating about a release of this score by LLL, I thought it might be useful to bump this up.

The only issue I have with the Silva is the missing Supergirl crystalline title treatment from the film's art campaign. Never understood that (surely it couldn't have been a licencing issue?) but then the Varese CD issue also didn't have it (while the LP did). Weird.

I love this score and would be all over a complete release. For that matter, the film is also a nostalgic favourite and I hope the rumoured Warner Archive Blu-ray release is really happening. Interesting that Leslie Halliwell gave this film 1 star while S:TM got none!

I personally have a bunch of issues with the Silva Screen release but at the same time I'm very appreciative of its existence due to Supergirl being one of my favorite Goldsmith scores.

I would be all over a LLL complete re-release of this right from day one!

I enjoy Silva's release, warts and all, but would instantly buy a newly remastered version (preferably featuring the complete score on disc 1 and the original album on disc 2). My fingers are crossed!

I'd be all over, even a blind buy.

With all this talk I'll have to spin this again. I haven't played it in probably a decade. I might be able to make a more agreeable fan edit.

Extremely Bad Flic..Turkeys Don’t Fly...and neither does Goldsmith’s score. I have two versions..and neither one I would listen today.

Wow, I'm amazed at the antipathy to this score. Maybe it's nostalgia speaking (I don't remember hating the film as a child, either), but I enjoy the theme and find the aerial ballet music lovely. I don't think either release is great: I prefer the de-whooshed Varèse, as those sounds grate on the eardrums through headphones, but prefer the Silva's length, but also the Silva has that weird silent gap . . . I think a definitive edition with better sound would be very welcome. Not top tier Goldsmith but still a fun and occasionally beautiful score.

I only have the Silva release, but I love this score. Surprised at the negative reactions to it here.

Me too. I think part of it is the people who feel like more focus should be put on scores that are unreleased.

But there is a lot of presentation that can be much improved on with Supergirl.

And honestly, who cares about the film. We are talking the music. Jerry composed for a lot of terrible films. Still made good or great music for them.

You're right. Interestingly, Boys From Brazil was one of JG's most concert-music-level of scores, yet the movie was unintentionally campy with a beyond miscast Peck and shamelessly overacting Olivier. I still happen to like the movie, and file it with Final Conflict as heavily dependent on the score to help us forgive how ludicrous the stories really were.

For the record, LOVE the Ira Levin BFB book (it was waaay more forgivable and believable on paper imo)...same with the FC novelization.

Oooh, may I have your Varese then? wink

Blu-ray finally coming this month from Warner, so fingers crossed for a matching score release in the near future. . .

Amen to that. Lets hope a definitive presentation of the score is not far behind!

Good news, but too bad the extended cut is only included on DVD...

I sincerely hope there will be a complete score release soon.

Has there been any further talk about a re-release from LLL or any other label?

We've tried for years as I'm sure others have. Complete session masters exist, but rights are messed up. I'm sure you've heard that before!

"rights are messed up" = Silva still holds the rights (at least for the previously-unreleased music) in perpetuity? I believe MV said something to that effect years back...and Legend is presumably in a similar boat.
