I'm hoping that this catchy German version of the Boxer Theme (supposedly sung by Der Botho-Lucas-Chor with lyrics by Fred Conta) appears as a bonus track:
or just for fun, the Robie Porter steel guitar version:
or the equally catchy Bill Evans version:
"Ev'-ry-bo-dy sam-ba To Di-mi-tri Ti-om-kin... He's the guy who wrote the theme from Fif-ty-Five Days At Pe-king..."
Though the original music masters on fullcoat magnetic 35mm film HAD been destroyed or trashed years ago, I heard through the filmmusic grapevine that a dub-off stereo tape copy of everything had been sent to Columbia Records to make up the original soundtrack album in the early 60s. Apparently, after making up their album, they vaulted everything and it's been sitting there for nearly 50 years, unsearched for . . . Still, with the opening up of Sony/Columbia/BMG, you never know what unexpected treasures might be found.
If we can get expanded versions of Circus World and John Paul Jones (expanded or re-recorded for both), we'll have all the Bronston epics in complete form.
Forget an expansion of "Circus World," I could never understand why the MGM LP of "Circus World" has never been issued on CD. Missing LP master?
Does Circus World have a worthwhile dramatic score? Never saw it, but got the impression from somewhere that it was nearly all arrangements of classic Big Top music.

I would have hoped that producer Didier C. Deutsch would have checked the tapes of "The Alamo" for additional cues before deciding to add tracks from the mixed soundtrack of the film into the CD of "The Alamo" that he produced for Sony Legacy back in 1995.
Likewise with the CD of "West Side Story" that he produced in 1992.

The vintage Piano Highlights songbook I have includes plenty of themes I believe are Tiomkin originals
i just want to know from anybody how much more unreleased music is contained in this score in addition to the cd i already have from columbia. i am definitely thinking of obtaining this double cd. thanks for any information.

I don't know the answer to that question, but I do believe (based on all evidence to present) that LLL would not be putting out a 2-disc set unless they had something worthwhile to offer. I also know that this is a must-buy for me, and I'll be up there at the head of the line with $24.98 in my clammy little mitts.
