More stuff from the early 1960s - right?

Nope.

LILITH by Kenyon Hopkins

... or ...

Meyer Kupferman's BLACK LIKE ME

Nope. This is two great scores on one CD, both scores by the same composer. One is a world premiere release and one has been on CD before and is long OOP (sold out VERY quickly and fetches a nice price these days). This CD is incredible value for money.

Oh well, that rules out Baxter, Bernstein Bennett, Donaggio, Sarde and a few other previous Kritzerlanders...

I'll make it easier - composer is new to Kritzerland.

So far the clews indicate 1) a deceased American composer, 2) never on Kritzerland before, 3) one soundtrack previously on CD which sold out fast and has a high price on the secondary marketplace, & 4) the last name does not begin with letter "B", "D", or "S". smile

Could this be the premiere of Jerry Goldsmith on Kritzerland?

I'm afraid the gluttonous appetites of the other labels for all things Goldsmith will probably preclude this from ever happening, not that I wouldn't love to have a Goldsmith title and one from the 60s would be my preference.

Something from the 1970s, peut-etre? A comedy or cinefantastique?

1- Are these scores from the '50s or earlier?

2- Are these scores from the 20th Century-Fox library?

3- Are these scores from the Paramount library?

When you say that the composer was never on Kritzerland, does that include all of the composers whose stock music indirectly appears in I MARRIED A MONSTER FROM OUTER SPACE?

I've just gone through the entire Kritzerland catalog to see if I could ascertain which composer/composers have not been represented.

First of all, going through this list.....I think it is astonishing what Mr. Bruce has brought us on Kritzerland in the last few years.....in the neighborhood of 60 individual composers already, not counting the Broadway releases. What a catalog! And what dedication to the art of film music! We are lucky to have this label around.

Several of the prominent composer names which stand out as NOT represented are John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith (which Bruce has already eliminated), Herbert Stothart (highly unlikely), Miklos Rozsa, David Raksin, Victor Young and Hans Salter (represented only in the "Monster" stock score), and Jerry Fielding. There are probably a few others I've missed.

We can thus eliminate Williams (living), and Goldsmith---but still have Stothart, Rozsa, Young, Salter, and Fielding---plus who else??? I'd eliminate Stothart immediately (what valuable CD has gone out-of-print?).....

I suspect this score is by David Raksin (but what could the expensive oop CD be??) or Jerry Fielding.

My best guess is a new release of Fielding's THE WILD BUNCH, with something else as the premiere score. (But there's probably another composer I haven't even thought of..... frown )

I suppose it could be FEDORA---but what's the other "premiere" score?

I've thought of a few more deceased "Hollywood" composers to add onto the list:

• David Buttolph
• George Duning
• Jerry Fielding
• Jerry Goldsmith
• Leigh Harline
• Michael Kamen
• Jerome Moross
• Basil Poledouris
• David Raksin
• Leonard Rosenman
• Miklos Rozsa
• Hans J. Salter?
• Victor Young

Regarding Jerry Fielding, that SAE CD of THE OUTLAW JOSEY WALES commands high prices.

However, I suspect it might be a Fox score by Leigh Harline which sold out formerly on the Intrada label - THE GIRL IN THE RED VELVET SWING perhaps? Or HOUSE OF BAMBOO?

[P.S. I only just remembered Intrada's quick sell-out of NIAGARA! Could Kritzerland be giving us more early 1950s Sol Kaplan scores from Fox?]

Composers with the last name initial B,D or S have already been eliminated.

Oh, yes that's right.

I was thinking only of names of the deceased whose music hasn't been on Kritzerland yet.
For this specific upcoming release - no Buttolph, no Duning, & no Salter.

Still wondering about Harline or Kaplan, though, and if Kritzerland will develop a pattern of re-issuing Fox scores previously on Intrada CDs, as was done with Friedhofer's BARBARIAN & VIOLENT SATURDAY.

Also no Goldsmith - as stated by Mr. Kimmel himself a few posts back.

The avowed Rosenman-ite in me is really hoping that he finally makes his debut on Kritzerland ("Fantastic Voyage" sold out fairly quickly, I believe), but I think ToneRow is probably closer to the mark in his Harline or Kaplan theory (perhaps Harline's "Black Widow" paired with something else? I seem to recall that that one sold out pretty quickly). I think both of those composers are the pants on a Roxy Usher too, so that'd be great.

Either way, very much looking forward to receiving the Previn, and hearing what the latest Kritzerland gem will be!

Well, I, for one, am very fond of the 1950s.
