I'll be curious to see how they handle the editing for combining both "BoBW" episodes. The season sets are too expensive for me at the moment, so I'll be buying this individual release to help hold me over. Have you been able to view any of the episodes yet from any of the Blu-ray releases? (Such as the "sampler" that was released before the Season 1 set.) If not, you're in for a real treat! My jaw drops every time I watch an episode--I can't believe how great they look and sound! I wonder if they'll show "Best of Both Worlds" in the theater like they have been for the first two seasons....

For my money, the payoff and the real meat has always been in Family. So (even though Jones didn't score it) do you remember any payoff musically in Family? Yavar

Bummer. So if it's just another nondescript 4th season McCarthy score I guess not really worth releasing any of it...I better like the idea then of including expanded highlights suites from Chattaway's two largely unreleased Borg scores for later in the series... Yavar

I don't know if the entire “Family” score would play well in complete form, but there were a few very nice cues in there, including a fanfare motif that is not too disimilar from the opening of the Generations theme (though I think the similarity is probably a coincidence).

In one way it makes a lot of sense, in order to tie in with the theatrical screenings and remastered Blu-ray release. The only thing I'm confused about is why we haven't already gotten Insurrection in the last couple months first. Perhaps there's trouble locating the re-scored material (ie. the film versions of some cues were not what was on GNP's original album and were almost certainly done at a scoring date too late to include.) Anyway, I'm happy that BoBW is getting this treatment and I for one would even get McCarthy's Encounter at Farpoint again if it were afforded similar treatment... Yavar Why is anyone complaining about the fact that this is coming BEFORE Insurrection?? What if they are both released on the same day? Who knows?? My point is we should be grateful we are GETTING a complete Best of Both Worlds. I am very excited about it, as it was one of the first soundtracks on CD I ever got (through my parents of course). Insurrection will come soon enough.

As has been said, there is a timely tie-in for "Best of Both Worlds." Why would "Insurrection" be assumed to be coming out first? As for why we haven't yet gotten "Insurrection," well, GNP is not exactly cranking out CDs. (This is not a criticism!) They released "First Contact" last April, and "Generations" seven months later. It is now another six months, and they have their next "Trek" release. If that's roughly the speed at which they're going, it makes sense to put "Best of Both Worlds" next in the batting order. Which is not to say "Insurrection" won't come for another six months. (Or "Farpoint," for that matter.) They just put things in their pipeline at their own schedule. Nothing confusing about that.

You know, I was asking the same question, but with today's FB reveal, I'm wondering if I'm starting to see a pattern come together that we can rely on with GNP. First Contact expanded was released out of nowhere in April 2012. Generations expanded was released in October 2012. BoBW looks like it might be released in April 2013. So one would think from this pattern that Insurrection would follow in October 2013, if the 6th month intervals hold up. The other possibility is that they might release the final one in tandem with the ST:ID release, though that would kind of compete with the actual ID sountrack release.

I never expected people to make an issue of "Best of Both Worlds BEFORE Insurrection!". To me, it's a non-issue. Other than the fact that they were both written for an entry into Star Trek canon, they're completely unrelated in my mind. Every time it happens, I've managed to forget that people will always, inevitably, find something to complain about. The internet has poisoned people's sense of reality. No matter what gem we're given, its either: a.) not enough, b.) too much, or (apparently) c.) not in the right order, thereby offsetting the quantum resonant frequency of the universe and destabilizing the very fabric of existence. Or something like that. I'm thrilled this is happening. It'll close the book on the Ron Jones Project and we'll have one of his best scores in pristine audio.

It's weird, especially when you consider the order in which Trek related expansions have occured. Film (from memory, so correct me if wrong): STII STII STV STIV STVI STFirst Contact STGenerations ST:TMP TV series: TNG (Jones) TNG (others) TOS DS9 Nothing has occured in order. So why now would it make a difference if one came before the other?
