Want sumpin' easy?

Listen to this movement from a ballet and tell us who wrote it. Even though this is not from a soundtrack album, one should be able to detect a composer known for film music during the '50s & '60s.

At first I thought this was by somebody else but a couple of minutes into it I realized it has to be Malcolm Arnold, sounding a bit like 'Bridge Over the River Kwai.'

Well, with the Arnold tipoff I headed over to YouTube and settled on his Elektra.

Correct. Arnold probably wrote that Elektra ballet after completing his film scores for The Lion and Nine Hours to Rama.

No, not Corigliano. I guess Ag^Janus is somewhat late to the Malcolm Arnold party. smile

Bleh another "dammit this sounds familiar" one. Doesn't sound British to me anyway -- very French, in fact. It's not Taillefaire is it?

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner. She's one of my French faves from Les Six, like Milhaud and Honegger and the others. VERY underrated - beautiful music and not enough on disc.

There aren't many American composers who are known primarily for a vocal/choral work. Since the well-known piece is Holiday-themed, I venture to say the composer is G.C. Menotti who is known basically for Amahl and the Night Visitors.

[Unlike Shazam Sean, I don't need any phone to tell me! big grin]

Sure, but only after I gave you the money clue! wink

Damian in places it sounds like 80s stuff, even morricone/nicolai-esque. Im sure it isnt but there is some intended copying going on.

Bill Carson already commented on it, Damian.

Sounds to me like '90s action music from Hans Zimmer's remote control/media ventures company.

Who wrote it? My guess is one composer, five orchestrators plus one synthesizer programmer.

Since my easy one was guessed quickly, we now return to my regularly scheduled Italian soundtrack puzzler:

I spotted his comments later on.At first I thought he was talking about another piece til I read again.

Anyway. It's one composer and one orchestrator( how dare you suggest otherwise big grin )- Nuc Raine, no less..
It's from ' Jaquou Le Croquant ' a French film from 2007.By Laurent Boutonnat. He well wire anumber of hats here.He was also the director, producer and writer. And it's a good listen.
