The Previn YOUNG HOLLYWOOD COMPOSERS is now on a cheaply produced CD available at Amazon. I think I've written about it elsewhere on the Board -- it doesn't credit a single one of its composers, young or otherwise! I wish someone would finally put out a CD of the Newman/THEMES!, an excellent LP, and for many years, until Bruce's Kritzerland saved the day, my only place to listen to the maestro's lovely theme for THE PLEASURE OF HIS COMPANY.

Am I the last man standing here? I read all your posts, and plan to listen to the tunes you've posted when I'm in the mood. (It all depends on my mood, I'm a moody fellow, as Richard Harris said once upon a time.) Me, I'm still slowly working my way through the Matt Monro 3 cd set. Still focusing on vocalists right now. But don't let that prevent you from keeping the flame burning!

Okay, be that way.

Okay, be that way. I don't have access to the internet as often as wealthy writers who live high, high up in the Hollywood Hills, alongside the mansions of Merv Griffin, Pia Zadora and who knows who else. In any case, out of respect for the original poster, I'll ask that you open a separate thread since I don't want to hijack it.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned anything John Mauceri has done.

Hijack away! I'm sure not contributing to this right now. But I think the reason I started this thread was my interest in covers that would more likely be different arrangements, new takes. Mauceri is beyond great, and I've been snapping up his recent albums and finding some of his old ones. But his are among the most accurate recordings of original material, even if sometimes in new suites. My purpose here was to ID artists who were bringing their own artistry to movie songs, and maybe making them their own. But if this goes far afield from that, it's cool. My favorite threads meander.

"Hijack away! I'm sure not contributing to this right now." David -- your move. (I'd say more, but Pia's calling.)

Ok, Jim, that's one definition of 'far afield'. Nice article too.

Hi, David, Do you have any feelings about THE SKY'S THE LIMIT, the film which introduced "My Shining Hour"? Nope.

Sue Raney, of course, sang the title song from Wait Until Dark over the end credits. She's still around and has done three Kritzerland shows in the last couple of years.

I did two wonderful movie theme albums with Fred Karlin - well worth seeking out. When I was growing up I occasionally liked the movie theme albums better than the actual soundtrack albums. Of course, no one here has once mentioned the three greatest movie theme album people ever - Percy Faith (get his Hollywood's Greatest Hits - I think that's what it's called - yellow cover - it was a spectacularly beautiful version of David Amram's Splendor in the Grass), Don Costa (find his theme album with Previn's Long Day's Journey into Night), and Andre Kostelanetz.

Well, again, the purpose of the thread originally was to focus on singers who had movie song albums. It's just been moving a bit into the movie theme cover category, including lots of mostly instrumental and choral versions, which covers a lot more ground. But all are welcome.
