Are there any modern superhero themes you would say are good?

I really like Flying from Man of Steel. The Dark Knight also has some great tunes even if I'm not sure it has a main theme.

By Flying do you mean "Flight?"

I agree that Man of Steel have two great cues in "Flight" and "What Are You Going to Do When You Are Not Saving The World." The rest of the score though, I can't say that many positive things about it.

In The Dark Knight, I think "A Watchful Protector" is one of the best cues in any modern superhero movie.

Not really a theme, but Zimmer's Wonder Woman riff is probably the most memorable recent memory.

Another great superhero theme is the X-Men theme by John Ottman. I honestly think that is better than any of the MCU themes.

In the MCU, I think Silvestri's Avengers theme is simply but really gets the point across. I also think Doyle's Thor theme is underrated and very full-bodied compared to these other themes.

It's a nice orchestral superhero score, very William-sy and i got certain vibes of David Arnold in it.

Great stuff from Wallfisch.

Well, holy shit. Where did this come from?

I’ve dismissed Wallfisch after It and A Cure for Wellness. But this is something else.

There’s a complexity to the orchestration that not only reminds me of Korngold and Arnold, but Shearmur and Ishkeri when they’ve been at their swashbuckling best.

Some really, really great writing in here. Maybe my favorite score of the year so far.

Haha what

Point me toward the tracks you like? It’s just so busy that I can’t grab onto anything.

It’s weird, but it’s almost as if different people can like different things?

I know the feeling though. That’s how I often feel about Brian Tyler — the difference here is that Tyler’s orchestrations are so bland and generic.

I just have a soft spot for dense, swashbuckling music.

I feel like the score is a lot less busy than you think it is.

Cues like “Super Villain” and “I Can Fly” are hugely restrained in parts, with the latter just being superb. Other tracks like “Dude, You’re Stacked” and “Seeking Spell” are huge highlights for me.

It’s busy and big when it needs to be, but so much of the album has some really fantastic, quiet woodwind and string writing.

You should NEVER have to explain why you like something...

Yes, you should. It’s why we read reviews! When you value the opinion of others, their viewpoint can sometimes change minds.

Appreciate the sentiment and I don’t disagree. I’m happy to share my opinion when asked even if I chafed at the initial request. I don’t think anyone here should have to defend why they like what they like.
