I know we're not supposed to swear here, but F(¤(¤/¤&&K! Is there no end to Giacchino's takeover of all the big franchises out there?

F(¤(¤/¤&&K! give Zimmer a chance! Its not like he hasn’t taken over every major franchise in the last 15 years!

Actually, swearing has never been against the rules.

Is “F(¤(¤/¤&&K!” Norwegian for fuck?

The difference is: Hans Zimmer is great. Michael Giacchino is the greatest hack in the history of film music.

Said by the greatest music critic hack in the history of film music.

THOR hates him.

That's the understatement of the year. Although, to be fair, it only applies to his "music", not the person.

Whew! Michael can sleep better knowing that.

You're right. I like JOHN CARTER (when I'm in the mood for it), and I think LOST works in context. The rest he's done is just 'The Emperor's New Clothes', and it irritates me from here to high heaven that people don't see what a hack he is. The irritation just grows higher for each franchise he takes over, like this one.

There's support groups for this.

Not sure about genius, but Levi has more talent in her pinky toe than all of Giacchino's work combined.

I can’t tell when Thor is “on the wagon” or “off the wagon.

Thor, surely you enjoy Giacchino's work on Star Trek 2009?
No. But the theme is decent for a Giacchino composition.

It’s a exhilarating theme and one of my favorites!

The Kev Correction

From all the thousands of composers who ever scored a film in the history of cinema, Giacchino is the greatest hack? Really? When people say stuff like this I find it hard to ever take them seriously again.

Who takes Thor seriously?

Absolutely, yes. I can think of no other talentless person in film history that has managed to 'swallow' so many big titles; who's the absolute epitome of the "Emperor's New Clothes".

Haha, Thor, you now sound like that crazy old person, ranting in the corner, just to try and be noticed.

Why? Because I have a passionate opinion on this matter? Well, it's what I genuinely feel. I'd love to elaborate more on why Giacchino irks me so, if anyone's curious. If he had just been a terrible composer, and nothing more, he wouldn't have annoyed me so. But alas, there are other issues in play that moves it into straight-up hatred.

Has anybody said Star Trek lately?

Thor, would you have interviewed MG, and dared to be critical?

I'm not slamming Zimmer, Mr Marshmallow (well, maybe a little bit), but merely pointing out that anyone moaning about MG scoring the new Batman film needs to get a grip and remember the lazy, dull and uninspired scores that the Zimmer Factory vomited up for previous efforts.

This one will have heart, emotion...hell, it'll even have a THEME!!!

If that's not a " slam" , I I'd hate to see the real thing!

I thought Scandinavian people were cool, calm and collected.

The DARK NIGHT scores are " uninspired"?

No further comment necessary.

Thor has obviously never heard the ' music's of Leonard Rosenman.
( or, Max Steiner)

That sounds like Lorne Balfe.

Thor, would you have interviewed MG, and dared to be critical?

Absolutely; although obviously phrased in a way that wasn't straight-up rude. But I really have no interest in interviewing him.

Pardon my candor but who the heck is Thor? And why his opinion seems to matter so much in the forum??

It doesn't. He just tries to make it so.

To quote Captain Jean-Luc Picard: "Make it so!"

(From Star Trek)

He's the Simon Cowell of message board commentators.

THOR is the Norse.God of Thunder.
Son of Odin, half- brother of Loki.
Bow your head, human!

I don't see how that is even possible. How does one make one's own opinions' matter, anyway? I just air my honest opinions, whether they're majority or minority views, whether they're popular or unpopular, I don't care. It's everyone else making a big deal out of it. As steffromuk correctly alludes to above, I'm a nobody; my opinion matters no more or less than anyone else's here. But damn it if I'll stick to my guns, especially on 'pet subjects' such as the value (or non-value) of Michael Giacchino's work.

I remember reading here awhile back that Giacchino has read this forum. It would be great if he chimed in, so I could relate some of my criticisms 'face-to-face'. smile

I’m with Thor and Marshall. It a sounds to me like you all are actually the old folks screaming in the corner. A score is only good if analog instruments are used? Giacchino could use the largest orchestra ever and would still get nothing out of it. Giacchino would still produce the orchestral equivalent to the worst RC score.
