How To Steal A Million is a wonderful little gem. I hope all of these early JW scores can be re-issued and stay in print so that the new generation of film music fans can enjoy them as much as we have.

Thanks for listening, Amer!

I remember listening to the 80th birthday special in my classroom after hours back when I'd first discovered Cinematic Sound. Hard to believe it's been a decade, but what a treat to revisit the special in enhanced form now. Not to get too deep into the making of the sausage, but is the background music under your narration new? It really enhances the production value, giving the whole thing a sort of Ken Burns quality. Maybe that was always there, but anyway, just a shoutout to say thanks for soundtracking my spreadsheet travails the other day, and I can't wait to dive back in on future episodes. You and Jeff Commings are definitely two heads on my Mount Rushmore of John Williams evangelists.

Wow! That's amazing. I'm glad you remembered the first version of this special and are able to compare and contrast the two versions.

Not to get too deep into the making of the sausage, but is the background music under your narration new? It really enhances the production value, giving the whole thing a sort of Ken Burns quality.

No, the background music is new to this version. I think there were later episodes when I was skipping over some of Williams' later titles where I had some music under my narration but for this new version of the special, I'm going to add Williams' music underneath my narration for the entire series. I too feel that it adds to the flow of the show and enhances the production value. Thank you for noticing!

But anyway, just a shoutout to say thanks for soundtracking my spreadsheet travails the other day, and I can't wait to dive back in on future episodes. You and Jeff Commings are definitely two heads on my Mount Rushmore of John Williams evangelists.

Thank you so much for the kind comments, thank you for listening and thank you for being a fan of the show for the past 10 years or so! BTW, since you are a fan of Jeff's... I think you might like the bonus John Williams episode that will premiere a little after February 10th. wink

Cheers!

You said in the pod that Williams still thinks of Jane Eyre as one of his favorites. I absolutely agree with that sentiment and hold Jane Eyre in my top 5 of all Williams scores. Do you have a source for that point by Williams?

Well, I'll let you in on a little secret... they won't be. We've got more great Williams programs coming up after the 8th such as Underrated John Williams Tracks Part 2, John Williams TV scores, John Williams concert works, more re-recording John Williams... and probably a few more Soundtrack Alley episodes featuring Williams scores. And we have a 10 part special dedicated to Williams' collaboration with Anne Sophie-Mutter. razz

But, I'm glad you are enjoying the shows. They've been a lot of fun to put together.

Cheers,

-Erik-
