I’ll have to miss today’s session. Invited to a socially distanced barbecue. I need some fresh air. See you next week.

We'll miss you Mel and your constantly rotating film score backdrop!!

I’ll have to up my game and show some other Lps next week.
BTW, after discussing Rocco & His Brothers (Rota) last week, I noticed that it is being shown on TCM tonight (8/31) at 8pm ET. I haven’t seen it since its original release. We were lucky to have an art theatre nearby which showed foreign films. Their first was Never on Sunday which did so well, it played for months. They weren’t great at displaying 2:35 aspect ratio films because the theatre and screen were so small. See you all next week. Really missed you.

Now that's interesting because last week there was a neat article in the NY Times about the continuing influence of Ladri di Biciclette [Bicycle Thieves] and the Rocco film was mentioned and with the Rota talk and all here I decided I had to see it. Thanks for the TCM tip. If I don't catch it tonight perhaps it will have been placed On Demand.

There is something about end of 1950s-into-60s b&w jobs filmed on location in cities here in the States (mostly New York, I suppose) and in Europe that hold a fascination that I've never quite been able to define. I'm talking Rocco, The Entertainer and One, Two, Three, for instance. Will save it for another day and another thread. In the meantime, the one filmed in Milan that I watched last night is reaching the haunting stage, earlier characterizations notwithstanding. Damned if I can figure it out, except, like the title character, I have four brothers and am smack dab in the middle, too. Two in front, two behind. That aspect alone adds a touch of color to the film-viewing proceedings, in retrospect. cool

Glad it arrived safely and works well, Bill. I know Bose has a great reputation and consumer following but the last one I heard wasn't to my liking ... a bit too tinny but it was an old player (the heavily marketed one with CD drive + radio). My hi-fi streamer and DAC and my AV amp have iPod docking facilities so never considered buying a dedicated sound-dock.

Couldn't stay the distance last night (family 'phone call, etc.) but I enjoyed the topics discussed ... even if I struggle to agree with some of the views expressed! smile

All good fun!
Mitch

I feel the same way. Something was missing yesterday. I feel like I’ve made new friends. The conversation is interesting, humorous, relaxed and I’m always learning something new.
