I've lost track here. Spymaster's posting was about Goldsmith's THE 'BURBS. And this is really available as HD (24bit/48khz) download (!) from Qobuz. At least in Europe. Link above in Spymaster's posting. So why this talk about iTunes etc.? When it's not available there...? So what? Buy it from Qobuz.

All 11 releases are 16/44 btw except How To Train Your Dragon which is 24/96. John Powell's Solo Special Edition is 24/96 as well.
Also, I really love how he's putting the reel markers on each track.

Thanks for the info, @Tom Maguire!! And let me expand upon something I said above...

You can have hi-res uncompressed or lossless files, but uncompressed or lossless files are not all hi-res by default.

Not all "hi-res" files are true hi-res by default either. But more on that to come soon hopefully. Right, @W. David Lichty [Lorien]?

Where does it say iTunes sells lossless files? Apple Music offers hi res for streaming but not for download via iTunes.

Varese is selling hi res files directly from their site and delivering the files via email. That's not iTunes selling them.

The links above take you to where SOME of the Deluxe Editions can be bought from iTunes but there is no claim that they are hi res. I'm not aware of ANY titles that can be bought via iTunes in ALAC. Played back, yes, but not purchased in the iTunes Store. That's a long-standing Apple policy.

I could’ve sworn I seen these in the iTunes Store. But after a lot of googling and reading you are 100% right. There is no way to purchase these through the iTunes Store. Kind of makes sense in terms of the target audiences average consumer and the size of the files. Second when I looked at albums in both Apple Music and iTunes Store I could see the difference with the labels. I recognize the labels layout etc in Apple Music as what I remember seeing. I probably was just getting mixed up. I’m sorry for adding to the confusion. But you can purchase a higher quality version at a higher price from Varese.

Questions--and this may have been answered already so I apologize in advance.

When buying a download direct from Varese's site, do they send a pdf or scan of the notes or are those not included with the digital releases?

Good question.
Also, Varese's website seems to not indicate in any way the resolution of the files you're purchasing. Unless I'm missing it, there's no way to know if the FLAC files are 24/192 Hi-Res, 16/44 CD audio quality or what.

Then make your purchase based on wanting to have CD quality files. Which, by the way, will sound great. They have forever; still do. If whatever files they are offering are worth the price of CD music, then go for them. If they turn out to be better, you got a great bonus, and if not, you got exactly what you wanted, likely well worth it. Some of these are out of print, and there's the music!

But if you want hi-res music (not just hi-res audio files packing CD quality), then make sure first that that's what you're being told is available, as Tom has been careful to check, and then if they are, sadly, you'll have to verify that you actually got hi-res music, too, whoever the seller is (but especially if it's Qobuz, who have not corrected their Inchon wording, even though they've known better since June).

I mean, hi res isn't a bonus to me. Just a waste of time downloading extra and spending time to downsample them.

Not a huge deal, but most websites DO let you choose (granted, Bandcamp doesn't and I wouldn't complain about any website trying to emulate Bandcamp....)

Just purchased THE MATRIX and PAYCHECK for digital download. I was emailed the links to download immediately after the purchase. The email contains a link to a download page where I had the option to download each score in MP3, FLAC, ALAC, and WAV formats. Each format lists the size of the download for the respective files. Once the file is extracted--unless I'm just not seeing it which is I suppose possible--there are no additional liner note files or anything of the sort. I decided to download in WAV format because reasons and I will say it's got a nice punch to it, especially THE MATRIX, which I'd only ever heard on the original release.

Some of the titles list the resolution, like The Cowboys, but others do not. Probably an oversight.
