Just received my tracking number from Varese UK. Mine's on it's way. Looking forward to every cue.

Keep the Goldsmiths coming Varese. You have one very happy and satisfied collector in me.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of these pasted end titles either. It's not necessary to paste in material that's been included elsewhere on the album, unless there were connecting tissues created by the composer (as was the case with Total Recall).

So people don't like the cut'n'paste end titles even though they are actually in the film like that....but are fine with a fully (or almost fully) redundant 'album' version, sometimes upping the price and/or the space the thing takes up?

*boggles*

Oh I don’t mind a pasted-together selection of bits from other cues created by a music editor for the end titles being included on an album... as long as it’s a self-contained track. But evidently I’m in a tiny minority because most people just want the music to slavishly reproduce whatever is in the film. I am long resigned to not being a typical consumer of this stuff (since I want the optimal musical experience).

26. Not My Partner/The Ransom (End Credits from the motion picture Along Came A Spider) (10:38)

I hope this is an actual composed piece of music and not a music editor-created end title piece pasted on the end of the genuine finale cue (like Intrada did on The Mummy). No issue with these non-composed end titles being included when they're indexed separately (like on Varese's US Marshals and Air Force One) but not a fan of these pasted-together things being put at the end of "proper" cues.

Sadly, darned if we include them, darned if we don't. We learned a lot when Cary took over and we have been trying to be more attuned to what the fans want on these releases (see: Looney Tunes and AFO as examples).

It really has become trying to make fans as happy as possible.

Yes. Someone will always complain. In this instance me. (Hangs head.) I realise I am not a typical listener!

Me too. Huzzah!

I bet you its not a proper tracking number. Why. Coz I didn't pay for one and was given one, and it said on royal mail can't find.

Why would you want this as a separate track though? It would be a jarring listening experience since “Not my Partner” would just abruptly end and the “end titles” would start up with the exact same tempo right after.

They segue perfectly into one another as a single cue.

I totally agree! Joined is how this music was conceived and exactly as should be presented on album.

Mind you a CD is devised for listening, not as something to just archive some files.

I believe this 10+ min. track alone is THE track worth on this new album.

Excellent job, Varese! And thank you again!

Two possibilities:
1: I’m strange
2: I’m complaining about something I haven’t even heard yet (hey, that’s what the internet is for!) and it will later transpire that I’m completely wrong and reverse my opinion.

I don’t discount the chance that both 1 and 2 apply.

The win-win scenario is to simply include "Not My Partner" again, after the "Not My Partner / Ransom" main program-ending combo track, as a bonus track.

Just arrived - can’t wait to listen (thanks Varese!). The liner notes seem slimmed down considerably - is there an accompanying online pdf with the analysis of the cues and mastering process? Would be a shame if this fantastic standard practice is being reconsidered?

So far just okay. It's like a watered down memory from the halcyon days of yor. End of career JG is my least favourite period.

Wow you already received it? I haven’t even gotten a shipping notification yet...

Jealous.

Well luckily you don’t have to look far for that. It’s already available on the previous album.

Yes. Since Varese opened up their UK office, it has really improved delivery times etc. Probably helps that i’m only 30 miles away from their warehouse.

You lucky mofo.

It’ll probably be at least 3-4 weeks before it’s in my hands. Ah well, I’ve waited 20 years. A few more weeks won’t kill me.

How’s the sound quality compared to the recent U.S.Marshals / Air Force One expansions?

Did you check out the orchestra chit chat yet?

Sound quality as good as the original album to me. Sounds fine. The extra minor cues have lots of synth sounds I missed. Just realised they remind me of Deep Rising. The orchestra chat is a disappointment. JG doesn’t say much. A few aborted cues heard. Nothing much really.

Ahh yeah. I know what you mean. It’s similar to the “sonar” synth heard in The Haunting. Sort of a modern day extension of his echoplex sound from the 70s.

Can’t wait to hear the cue “A Closed Book” and “The Missing Picture”

On a similar note, I always thought the end credits to Total Recall was all tracked but it's its own cue (I believe...)

When I was working on Total Recall and Basic Instinct for Quartet, my first inclination was not to recreate the tracked end titles. However, in both cases, after some research I realized they were necessary. Total Recall is comprised of three things: the "Main Title", a short original bridge and "The Mutant". All of these are unique to the end titles. The edit of the "Main Title" used different edit points than the "Main Title" proper, so the performance was a little different. The bridge was specifically recorded to join the "Main Title" with "The Mutant" and the end title version of "The Mutant" uses the concluding crash which is not used in the film proper.

The end title for Basic Instinct used a different take of "The First Victim" so that became an elegant, unique way to present an alternate take.

Mine arrived today too (from the UK store)

This is a really, really nice presentation! The cues literally glide from one to the next, short cues are seamless, it's a marvellous listening experience. This is twice as good as good as the original album, which never really clicked with me. The connecting pieces make all the difference. Here is some really inspired suspense music.

The Ransom Pt.1 and The Ransom Pt.2 play as one continuous cue.

The repeating "dada-dada" train motif is still cool.

The tracked end title works okay. It certainly bolts onto Not My Partner seamlessly. I just wish Goldsmith was still writing end titles at this point. But it is what is and it's fine.

Great stuff.
