”Snake Plissken... I've heard of you. I heard you were dead!” John Carpenter‘s Escape From New York (Expanded Edition Original Film Soundtrack) - John Carpenter (In Association With Alan Howarth)
Starring Kurt Russell in his favorite role, John Carpenter’s dystopian sci-fi adventure classic was released in theaters forty years ago today. The bleak and atmospheric score featured the first of seven collaborations between Carpenter and Howarth. Escape From New York spawned a sequel, some comic books, and a canceled video game. A remake has been in limbo for over a decade. I don’t want or need to see a different version of Snake escaping from New York again because I already did with the original. Since it’s seems to be a popular trend this past decade to bring back characters from dormant franchises I‘d rather see Carpenter and Kurt Russell re-team for a third Escape film centering on an old man Snake. It’s been 25 years since the last Snake Plissken adventure or since Carpenter/Russell worked together. I know Carpenter is semi retired from directing but I read somewhere he’d like to work with Russell again. Unfortunately I’ve also read that Russell has retired from acting with Santa (from The Christmas Chronicles 2) possibly being his last role according to the director Chris Columbus. I’m betting if Carpenter approached Russell with another Snake Plissken movie (with a good script) he’d be on board.. I rather see that over Laurie Strode Vs Michael Myers final round rematch no. 50 any day.
