Costner has started filming part 3 and hopes to find financing for 4, and with the distributor wishing to release 1 & 2 within two months it is possible that this release schedule will be similar next year for the remaining two films. The first film is projected to make only $12M its opening weekend, which is a disaster, especially considering the second film is coming two months later, and the third is partly-filmed. Obviously, things can change, but early reviews have mostly been pretty grim. I'm not saying any of this to be snarky (I'm friendly with a producer on these films, and I wish him well!) but I would be surprised if there are two more films on the… er… horizon for next year. I‘ve seen the tracking, too. But I would not be surprised if the film overperforms because as Costner himself has said his older fanbase in the flyover states hardly takes part in those tracking inquiries. Of course, this is not the kind of movie today’s main target audience of kids, teens and young adults is interested in anyway. I would suspect that it can do 20 million on opening and then play over the summer, with part 2 growing that business even further. If not - what will happen with the parts of the third movie already filmed?

If not - what will happen with the parts of the third movie already filmed? --------------------- I imagine some huge streamer like Netflix or Amazon will bank roll a finale so they can add it to their never ending need for 'content'. But yes, this could be a slow burn type release and eventually exceed expectations. I would LOVE to see Costner succeed. And all the box office pundits would scratch their heads.

The first film is projected to make only $12M its opening weekend By whom? or what? Probably the same algoritm that would claim something like Oppenheimer can never earn 1 billion... and you know what happened. Maybe this needs something to go along with it. Barbrizon maybe? A quiet place 3 is opening on the same day, so that will draw the young crowd. Hard to believe they would afterwards go for a three hour western. Then again, who knows? Quiethorizon…

The first film is projected to make only $12M its opening weekend By whom? or what? Probably the same algoritm that would claim something like Oppenheimer can never earn 1 billion... and you know what happened. I don't know what algorithm you're referring to. Was it a real one? Because in the weeks leading up to Oppenheimer, it was tracking to do great box office. Which it did. I don't like tracking, or testing, or anything that seems anti-creative. I worry that these things can be self-fulfilling prophecies. But box office tracking just a few weeks out is rarely very wrong, and when it is wrong, it's typically when a film underperforms, not over-. I hope it's wrong in this case. I admire big swings, I have a friend (not a close one) who produced this. But I would be very surprised if it's way off here. The Quorum does its tracking by asking 2000 people whether they are aware of the movie coming out and compares it with similar movies in order to estimate the opening numbers. Kind of shaky, I believe. But as you say: self-fulfilling prophecies. And people do enjoy to be part of a herd these days. Only watching movies a majority says: you should.

A traditional movie score. It really sounds terrific! Thank you, Kevn Costner, for making a movie which still allows and asks for this kind of score.

Now that I've heard the samples I'm getting excited. What a great opportunity for Debney to shine.

One thing about the trailer puzzled me - why would anyone make an epic-length, multi-part Western for movie theaters, title it "Horizon," and not shoot it in widescreen?

One thing about the trailer puzzled me - why would anyone make an epic-length, multi-part Western for movie theaters, title it "Horizon," and not shoot it in widescreen? The Aspect ratio is cinema widescreen 1.85 : 1. If you mean: anamorphic, then this probably was a choice for budgetary reasons. Still, this is a perfect ratio on a big screen or even tv, and the story also focuses on the people, so Costner chose well.
