Sadly, films like Presumed Innocent are EXACTLY what Netflix Originals should be, but instead the streamer tries to compete with the Hollywood blockbusters, just furthering the dumbing-down of modern film. That said, I don't think there's many scriptwriters working today that can write proper dramatic work, instead relying upon CGI spectacle for any 'wow'. Likewise the sad state of the use of film music.

I don't see why you'd think that all writers suddenly got stupid. Of course, there's a chicken/egg argument that can be made, but I think audience taste for spending the kind of money it costs to go out to the movies now – especially when televisions are excellent and home entertainment choices are near-infinite – has pushed the entire movie industry to event films. The sort of dramatic work you're asking for is now mostly the province of television, with series like "Succession" or "Dopesick" or "Mare of Easttown" (etc.).

Which is why, again, the new Presumed Innocent is an eight-part Apple TV+ series

Star Trek: Picard is the very last word on stupidity in current writing.

Star Trek: Picard is the very last word on stupidity in current writing.

I agree that it is extremely stupidly written, but I don't see what that has to do with things that are not "Star Trek: Picard."

I remember in 1990 looking at this CD in Tower Records and being shocked that the tracklist contained a spoiler (we didn't call them that then) for the big twist!

He did it again with Phantom Menace!

For my generation it would have been inconceivable to acquire a soundtrack album before seeing the film. Not that there were many such albums to acquire! I still resist the practice, since my personal response to music may make the actual dramatic use seem "wrong."

It stands out as a particularly bad show in a landscape with many bad shows. And it's a very high-profile bad show with lots of money behind it, so no excuse for the laziness on display.

Strange New Worlds is much better in many respects.

yeah, they dont make films like this anymore: pakula, gordon willis, j williams, ford, dennehy, julia, spencer & whitford (a decade before WEST WING), pollack producing... not bad!

Um back to Presumed Innocent!

I never loved the album - I loved the first cue, great statement of the theme, a strong number as usual. But so strong that the rest of the album just seemed to be repeating ideas (not fair at all, but that's been my take for 20 plus years), and I wouldn't stay with it.

This expansion is exactly what I hoped for - a much better presentation of the score without Williams' thumb-on-the-head reliance on bookending the score with the big number.

It builds quietly, almost relentlessly, and even the short tracks play well and bring some variety (and I'm usually one of those in favor of combining them into more musical sense).

This does the same thing in its way as the Dracula expansion, takes a predominantly single-theme score and builds it out beautifully (I know Dracula had more thematic material, but still driven by the main).

I can finally love a score I've always liked - thank you, Varese!

I wonder if SAE has received their shipment yet . Never saw anything on their website to let you know it hasn't been released yet.

Hi and we received our shipping notice yesterday but with the Monday holiday we'll get them middle of next week. Thanks for asking, Craig/SAE

The distro of the UK store isn't as awesome as it once was.
You used to get their new titles within a day or two.
But this hasn't even been posted yet one week later!!

I don't think Presumed Innocent is shipping until closer to 1st June, Kev. The description on their site is a bit confusing because it also says "ready to ship"....

But they're definitely slower in general. When Lionheart was announced, my copy arrived the next day (warts and all as it turns out). But The Bourne Identify just arrived today, one week after ordering. Still quicker than from the US mind you...

Thanks John, I didn't notice any blurb about 1st June posting date.
When I noticed someone above reviewing it, I wondered what the hold up was.

I've been hoping for an expanded and remastered release of this score. I love hearing the unreleased score as well as the film versions. Don't expect a revelatory upgrade in sound over the original release. It retains its original style, or character, of mixed sound, but definitely sounds better. There's an excellent balance of the many quiet passages and the louder, more dramatic sections. Overall it's a great presentation of a great score. A big thank you to everyone involved for your excellent efforts. Cheers!

Last time I looked, the intl site indicated 10th June re: availability. Possibly a delay shipping them over the pond, or complications re: our Jubilee Bank Holidays. The discs will come, folks. I'm good waiting. After all who saw this expansion coming at all six months ago?
