I do wonder how much restraint Giacchino will show in not aping his music from The Incredibles.
I expect he will show great restraint, since Pixar had to “license” Barry’s themes for the original movie. And let’s give the guy a little credit for 20 years of growth as an artist :-)
Its really weird they are putting so much focus on the theme music. Like they seem to think this is John Williams level writing? That room was awkward. Once again, Ottman's theme is still my preference. But not by a huge margin.
Breezy, not to ambient music for the innocent retrofuturism nativity of the start. Synth-swirls for the weird Kirbyisms. And added choir for maintaining camp. Never to heavy, not to ambient. His best since Dr. Strange.
I hope that the score itself is keeping the charm, wit and liveliness of the theme. Most of Giacchino’s scores are lacking in that and sound too formulaic.
The GIACCHINO bashing is quite ridiculous I must say. He's one of the few out there ,who holds the candle for good ole'filmscoring, in my opinion and he almost always nails his assignments! And ...last but not least he really has great themes and this Magical Hollywood flair sound from the 80ies with JOHN CARTER,SUPER 8,UP,STAR TREK etc etc.
This one is fantastic ( no pun intended) as well. Not the usual RAMBAMBAM....
