I just can't seem to pull the trigger on these (it's a gut feeling) - but feel like at some point I may get my hands on them after they come out. I can't seem to get past how LRG handled the release.

Yeah, it's not great, even if it is VERY much like LRG. I'm mostly going on FOMO at this point, and the knowledge that I can probably flip them if they turn out to be junk.

Same. Between the staggered release of one title per month, plus only producing their preorder count instead of a limited run, it's hard to feel warm and fuzzy. I look at the titles and their release months, all lined up on their video thumbnail, and my eyes see a box set. I like this is happening, but the label's clear insistence on an absolute minimum risk approach doesn't sit well.
It’s been 5 months since pre-orders for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles NES soundtrack closed, so we’re dropping in with an update for this title.
CD and Cassette Tapes: Manufacturing is nearly complete and we expect these formats in our warehouse in February for shipping. If you've moved, update your address NOW!
I am curious to see how these turn out, for those that ordered would love to hear your thoughts when they eventually start arriving.
And you'll definitely have them. As pointed out in this thread, the music is available in-game in the Cowabunga Collection. It will all boil down to whether they keep the presentation the same or make their own little adjustments. I hope to god they don't add crossfades going from one track to another.
The sound quality is great. It doesn't sound like an RCA cable 'capture' from the NES console. There is no background hissing or in-game sound effects playing in the background. It's a very solid-sounding release.
And the good news? The folks who compiled and edited the tracks were super generous with the duration for the tracks that loop. For example, the 'Level Theme 1' loops a total of seven times back to back, with the eighth loop starting the fade out. Seven full loops may sound like a lot, but that's how most of this music was written and designed. If the track ended on just one solid loop, then it'd be abrupt and hollow. Seven full loops is a good number as the track itself only clocks in at 1:50 of music.
The non-loop tracks are presented discretely and in full. No abrupt fade-ins, fade-outs or crossfading into other tracks.
Overall I can't find anything about this soundtrack that I would call disappointing. Since this is coming from 'Limited Run', that's a godsend. TMNT (NES) contains my number one favorite TMNT theme in the entire franchise, and having it officially on CD is immensely satisfying. Anyone who took a chance on this CD will not be disappointed!
Jeyl, I am both shocked and relieved that it turned out to be well done! I am going to have to keep my eyes peeled to see if I can find one sometime in the future. Eager to see how the next one turns out too.
Thanks for the review and the amount of looping sounds spot on. What’s the total runtime?
