Fantastic score indeed to a rather ludicrous film.
I wonder if the unused opening 18 seconds of "Final Death" really belong to the track (they seem a little weird in the context of the scene) or if they could be "Orch Stabs (1002 excerpt)" mentioned on Kamen's Homepage (https://www.michaelkamen.com/catalogue/venom), included with the track because they share the same slate number. Maybe someone in the know can shed some light on this?

I think my question above got lost in all the spam attacks.
Still puzzling over those first 18 seconds of "Final Death". To me they sound more like a selection of "wild" orchestra effects rather than part of the cue. No wonder they're not in the film. I have trouble imagining how they could have fit the scene. Does anyone know more?

The “Orch[estral] Stabs” are a 0:22 edit piece that is incorporated into M-1002, “Final Death.”
The first 0:18 of “Final Death” on the Quartet CD are marked on the paperwork simply as “10/30” and slated as “take 69.”
There was music cut, moved, re-used, and changed for the film, so we presented a programme that mostly reflects placement of cues as Michael Kamen intended. We did, however, make a few minor sequencing adjustments like this for the purposes of overall listening experience.
This is one of the early film scores recorded at Abbey Road after the Anvil team moved there in late 1980. We’re also hearing the personality of that lovely EMI TG12345 mixing console before everything was overhauled and modernised by 1984/85.
It’s a great early Michael Kamen score and instructive to hear how he gave this film a musical voice whilst solidifying his own.

Good score , been playing it a fair bit. I wasn't familiar with it, at all. I threw it in with an order. And I'm happy I did. Very recognisably Kamen, in a good way. All the more surprising in that it's for a poky ' horror' film.

It's quite good! Bit of a tricky listen since you really get comfortable with that proper, very British sounding Main Title, to be plunged into dark atonality for the rest of the run time. I keep pairing this with SUSPECT, which opens dark and stays there.
Kamen really did emerge fully formed, handling the NPO admirably. Perfect package all around too, great Bond notes and superb sound quality.
Nice to enjoy a premiere for a change!
