Will Top Gun be La La Land's only release for March?

One mistake in the notice from LLL though. Dog Fight #3 has also been released commercially before, on the Mighty Wings single.

MV, how long has this been in the works for you? Over half a decade, I am sure… maybe even closer to a full decade?

The catalog number (1606) is in the range of their Black Friday 2022 titles (1607, 1608, 1610, 1612, 1615)

There must have been (at least) two separate rounds of delays then.

Liner notes author Tim Greiving just shared this on Facebook:
“Fun fact: I started working on these notes way back in 2017 and I got a copy of the early assembly to Joseph Kosinski... who played it in the background when he pitched Maverick to Tom Cruise. In other words: I saved Hollywood.”

1. Yes this is it for March. I think that's enough, don't you? Lol

2. This was supposed to come out for Black Friday, but we didn't get final art approval on time.

Original 2023 slate we wanted

HOOK
TOP GUN
MASK OF ZORRO
TOPAZ
OCTOPUSSY
LALD
SILENT NIGHT

3. Lots of hoops, approvals and delays to make this a reality

4. The whole Bond nonsense delayed things. This was gonna be a Valentine's Day gift to y'all, but because of Octopussy shipments being delayed we had to delay Top Gun. Shipping would have been a logistical nightmare, so we sat there for the last few weeks like Mel Gibson in Braveheart shouting out Hoooold! Hoooold!

5. All Bond orders have been shipped out by now. Top Gun will most likely start shipping later next week(and no it won't be delayed... we're sure of that)

6. Next comes the nightmare of Scarface LPs and getting those in and shipping out...that will happen after Bond. By April things will have settled down and gone back to normal with 2 new releases dropping on April 2

Thanks for all your patience and continued support.

MV

PS...the cut off for autographs is 293922...915am pst...any order before that number will receive a signed booklet

I recall that getting artwork signed off was the issue that held this release up for so long?
Am I correct?

If that WAS the case, it’s pretty interesting that the front cover is simply an overused pic, the internal pics revealed so far are images thatve been floating around for years….in other words, nothing particularly different or outstanding that to my uninformed mind, would require some huge clearance details. Can any of the production team give a hint if it was just TC himself having soundtrack cd releases VERY low down his list of priorities…and thus he held up,this release, either knowingly or not?

Can't understand why, given the huge demand, this hasn't simply been released digitally long ago... I would have bought it immediately. I'm simply no longer willing to pay at least 50 € including shipping to Germany for one or two polycarbonate frisbees and then the package might end up at customs and I have to pay more and wait even longer. Anyway, after all these years, the best cues have already been unearthed in one form or another, albeit a little less... officially wink That's quite enough for me.

I get the licensing thing, I get that studios don't necessarily want this done under their own labels, I get that this is a niche market, I get that LLL might prefer this as a physical format business, I get that collectors want the disc.

But...

In the age of digital, it would be great to see this released as a hi-res download. Saves so much time and effort.

After listening to the track previews, I found it very interesting that the 'Danger Zone' track on 2. Carrier Takeoffs and Landings** 1:46 is instrumental where as in the film it featured the vocal lyrics. This is by no means a complaint or even a grievance since this is a very easy edit to change if I wanted to, plus I like that I can now listen to this song as an instrumental. This is strictly out of curiosity. Why present it this way?

Also, Mighty Wings instrumental? HECK YES!

Perhaps that was the original recording for that scene. Must have reedited the scene and decided to put the song in instead...maybe...

Or it was a licensing issue

Or they wanted the songs to be on disc 2.

Oh yeah! I had that game. It was TERRIBLE. Great music, though. I love those old NES game soundtracks.

Nothing wrong with either of those options. This is not an attempt to 'trap' MV or La-La Land into critiquing their editing choices on the music. I'm fine with this presentation (At least for what's been presented so far). Having the songs without vocals in the main body of the score presentation is not what I would have thought of as an option.
