The BLUE BOX will contain 8 discs and a 160-page hardcover illustrated book in packaging a la the Elmer Bernstein Film Music Collection -- here we have 8 discs in 2 butterfly cases (not 12 discs in 3 cases). The price was going to be $139.95 but we've gone out on a limb and reduced that to $119.95.

Lukas... for some people like myself who have not purchased the Bernstein Box yet, it would be quite an incentive this holiday season to finally do so together with this BLUE BOX if only the Bernstein Box was offered at a discounted price.

Just a thought...

wink

Ahhh, some of us who paid FULL price might look a tad askew at that....

'Golden Age Classics' is plural, so it's at least two scores. 'Sea Hawk' and 'Captain Blood?' Or any of a host of Steiners?

Non sequitur. "Golden Age Classics" is a category designation, not an indicator of the number of scores in the release. After Lukas' astounding release of THE SILVER CHALICE, my bet is on HELEN OF TROY.

Out on a limb, I'll throw in "The Land of the Pharaohs."

I have paid full price for many of the FSM soundtracks that had been discounted later on as well... but I see your point.

Discounted FSM titles then...

AND THE BERNSTEIN BOX!

big grin

I wasn't interested in the blue box as i assumed it would be well out of my price range so why bother worrying about it. But now it's looking a bit tempting, even with a raft of other ace titles out there. Haven't an idea what it's about though. When Lukas said beloved score or whatever it was i immediately thought of Conan the Barbarian, but i suppose that's out? Anyways, i'm sureyon box'll be trez interesting and worth the cash.

Well, I strongly doubt it'll happen, unless a promotional deal akin to offering copies of regular releases if you buy one full price comes about, like last Christmas. Face it, you're gonna have to pay full dime for this one.

I heard a definite rumor...in a shady cafe... that one completely finished box set is buried under a BIG W...somewhere...just waiting to be found by one of us...that's all I can say...rev up...I'm off

hmmmm...the original tracks to Ernest Gold's Mad World?

My guess on the 2cd classics is ..Waxman's Spirit of StL....

Have no idea on the Blue Box except to say that Rozsa's King of Kings was released both on lp and cd in a blue box.

Would the complete works of Guido and Maurizio De Angelis fit on these 8 CDs?

I know nothing about this release, but looking at Lukas' posting I would surmise:

a) It will be a release of a score or scores with appeal outside the normal core of soundtrack fans, hence the plans to press more than 3000;

b) It suggests a series of scores either grouped around a concept (as the Unforgiven set was) or, more excitingly, around a franchise, and one with quite a story to tell if the length of the book is any clue; and

c) Past licensing experience suggests either Fox, Warner Bros., MGM, United Artists, Columbia and/or Sony may be involved.

Most famous and beloved score of all time, a re-recording of The Wizard of Oz with outtakes re-recorded would be so cool. I love the score, but thought, if I could have the exact same contents of the expanded 2 cd set with todays sound and re-recording, that would be so incredible.

Bond revisited ???

[wild speculation] Well, one might ask what MGM, United Artists, Columbia/Sony have in common...[/wild speculation] big grin

Actually that's a lot to hope for, but I'm sure Lukas will have something great for us.

Steiner has been so conspicuous by his absence on FSM, I can't help but hope he's about to show up in a big way. And what score is more famous and beloved than Casablanca? Is there room for improvements to previous editions of that soundtrack that would justify another release?
If so, could this be a set that includes King Richard and the Crusaders, Helen of Troy, Rome Adventure, John Paul Jones, Last Command... etc?

Man, when you're wrong you sure show it in a big way.

That would be spectacular. But which score would be the "famous and beloved" one referred to?

If it's such a release that it's planned to be so unlimited, I'd make a wager that it's not a bunch of old mono scores. I know a lot of you are "OMG OST ONLEE EVEN WIT SHIT SUND" but the fact is, good sound sells better.

The Gerhardt certainly WOULD fit, if one considered the Star Wars suites as a 'score'...and compressing them all down to one 8CD set would be fantastic (as opposed to however many CDs there were, plus that compilation CD and so forth...).

I have to wonder if there's any other 'series' out there that hasn't been released on CD, or FSM would be able to and want to release like this. Hmmm...

And I'm sure the 2CD set is the Korngold, all things considerd.
