While the bad fades and edits marr this newer release, it is still so much more accessible to me than the 'lengthy suites' release originally put out by Varese. I gave it another spin at the weekend and was reminded how beautiful and how much fun this score is. It's also one of EM's more coherent scores as a listening experience. It's a nice package overall and I enjoy the tongue in cheek liner notes.
Since the original tapes are apparently lost I might be interested in a complete re-recording from Tadlow/Prometheus as a follow-up to their Conan recordings...
Of course I'd fund it if I could, but I can't. Especially now that I'm a student...no need to get grouchy. I think the Conan scores were their best sellers, so I don't see the harm in the casual suggestion...sheesh

Out of curiosity, how different is the Intrada release of that compared to the Laserlight release I have?
It was Prometheus that released the original Hundra cd, not Intrada. I never heard the Laserlight to compare, but the Prometheus sounds terrible. Very muddy. Fun score though!

Sorry, my mistake. Must be similar then, the Laserlight is pretty much unlistenable.
I think the problem with Hundra is a poor original recording as it was a low budget film. In the case of Red Sonja it seems more a problem with the source as apparently it was mentioned that the LP sounded much better than the subsequent CDs, but I think a new recording would be wonderfull as the original is reportedly lost...
Well, here's my basically unnecessary analysis post on Morricone's Red Sonja. The Perseverence insert covers it pretty well, but I just rewatched and I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than I thought I would! Also thanks to DanBeck's informative post on the 2-track version's breakdown, which I included.
Amazing how well it fits with Poledouris' scores. I wonder of it was temped w. Poledouris? Does Morricone even bother with temping and spotting? Half the time it seems like he just comes up with thematic library music and then does variations as needed. He does this extremely well, of course, that's not a criticism in any way.
I’ve been reacquainting myself with this score which I’ve had on LP since it first came out. Production issues aside, it’s a wonderful throwback to Morricone’s spaghetti westerns with a barbaric twist. The sound is surprisingly full and the whole experience is greatly improved by having the tracks separated and presented nearly chronologically. I really miss tuneful up-front adventure scores like this. It has charm which is something you just can’t say about many scores these days.
Just watched this 1985 film on sky again. Pretty awful corn, but Ennio's score has some class to it. What i did notice at the end credits was that it was a score conducted at The Forum studios by Franco Tamponi, who i know over the years conducted quite a few scores for Ennio.
