Manderley, the Metro LP was a cut down version of Kloss 2.

I suppose I'll have to live with the Rhino release.

It's not as if the Rhino release is no good, though is it.

I've got that, the Decca re-recording on Vocalion, the re-recorded suite on DRG. I love this score but I might make do with what I've got. Haven't decided yet.

Cheers

"Judah-Ben Hur! You've come back to us like a returning faith!"

Was just watching the amazing blu ray last night.

Of course, Pre-Ordered!

Looks great but $30.50 is quite a lot for p&p. Might be too pricey for me at the moment.

I used to think that the LION LP was only released in the U.S. I'm fairly sure that it wasn't available in the UK. It was, however, released in South Africa because I came across a copy some years ago and still have it. The cover is exactly the same as the U.S. version and is on the MGM label (not Lion), manufactured by EMI (South Africa). Maybe South Africa never had the Savina version?

Can you take it back, or temporarily pawn it?

BEN-HUR 5-disc sets are a one time thing, diamonds are forever! smile

To answer a question: no, we will not be repressing this after the 2000 copies sell out. We have, I think more than any of the other labels, tried to press our titles in sufficient quantities and as a result have over-pressed more often than not...and we're sitting on stock that costs money to store.

I think that a title this high-profile would be re-licensed to another label so as not to go off the market. But that's not something I have any control over.

Fair enough... And I respect the honesty.

Even at $60 this definitive 5 disc set really comes off as a steal when compared with the shorter Lord of the Rings complete releases (around $80) and ESPECIALLY when compared with Varese's release of a famous epic from a few years later: Spartacus! $110 for a single score! Lukas has practically cut that price in half for a comparatively definitive release of IMO even better music.

OK, but this is not a mediocre score by an unknown composer. This is BEN-HUR!eek With all due respect, 2000 copies only for a fabulous, legendary composition like this one sounds just ridiculous. Also consider that the (old) deluxe edition is out of print.
A very bad choice, sorry.

Ferro, you may very well be right, and the popularity of Ben-Hur itself drives sales beyond the usual (I hope so)—but we've had a consistent experience with Rozsa that there are around 1200 die hards worldwide, after which the sales fall of a cliff. We'll see what happens!

I also don't think anyone has commented on the "other" MGM LP of BEN-HUR---the one on the Metro label. It's buried deep in my holdings and I can't put my hands on it at this moment, but it also had a gorgeous purple cover and the BEN-HUR stone edifice logo (though this one was the stacked, angled version, not the single-height curved one). I always thought this cover was the most beautiful of them all.

It was on the cheaper Metro label, the successor to the Lion label, and it was, of course, a reissue. It was also slightly cut down in running time from the original album it replaced as I recall.

A modified version of this will be the cover of the FSM booklet.

What a magnificent release, Lukas. Done with your typical attention to excellence, and sure to be a pleasure to all of us who have ordered it (or intend to).

You're taking the label out with style.

Looking so forward to receiving my copy; yet another cherished cornerstone to my collection: courtesy of FSM.

Well, this is only my second ever Rosza purchase, so you can rack your sales up to at least 1201 for this set smile
