Watching the movie on Fox Movie Channel, I honestly wouldn't mind a complete S*P*Y*S.

Yes, I'm serious!

You know what? I totally agree. I thought I was the only Goldsmith fan who actually had love in his heart for S*P*Y*S! I especially love the nutty track, "Anybody Got a Key?" with the Russian male vocals and crazy references. It's just wild! Since I haven't seen the film, can you confirm for me that Goldsmith did write/record more score than the 19 minutes Varese included on their Goldsmith at Fox box? (Or did you just want some label to re-release/remaster that? Maybe Kritzerland could tackle some of the Fox Box stuff if Varese didn't get perpetuity rights on all of it -- a lot of people didn't get a chance at this or didn't want to spend $140 and it was many years ago now, so if Bruce wants to bring Goldsmith to his label and he's working with Fox now it might be a good idea. I had a customer at Joel's Classical Shop who desperately wanted Goldsmith's The Detective but had no reasonably way to buy it.)

And now to back up my request for either the original tracks (if they survive) or a re-recording for Goldsmith's first two feature scores:

I think we have our own zooba to thank for that suite.

I wonder what score I'll be able to cross off the list this evening, after Intrada releases it complete!

I'm hoping it's one of the three Goldsmith scores on Hollywood Records, which I asked Doug about recently on the Intrada forum (and he replied saying they were on Intrada's rader, particularly mentioning The Ghost and the Darkness):
http://www.intrada.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5285

"Yes, our partnership with Disney allows for sub-licensing titles from their associated label catalogs as well. BUT... keep in mind there are countless projects we want to see happen. That includes working on restoring timeless classics, numerous nature documentaries, the unreleased scores from the sixties, seventies and eighties, expansions of stuff on the Disney and Hollywood labels (like The Ghost And The Darkness, of course) as well as being their physical media label for new pictures like The Avengers, Toy Story 3, including exciting upcoming titles under consideration now. We'll be working at all this stuff for years to come!"

The reason I'm hoping it's one of those three scores (Ghost and the Darkness, Powder, Deep Rising) instead of other worthies like Congo or The River Wild (best parts weren't on the album), etc.? Because Intrada is the ONLY label that can do them. Both Intrada AND LLL have good relationships with Sony, so either label can do those other titles...

I suppose there's even an outside chance that this could be Mulan, because the Disney Records release DID omit about half the score and some great action music...but I think if it were Mulan it would've been trumpeted a bit more loudly than on the Doug's Corner post...

S.P.Y.S. was a short score, about 25 min. If it were possible, it would make a great pairing with The Lonely Guy! Very similar use of synths.

And it turns out it was Congo after all! I've updated my post to remove it from the list. Really expected LLL would snatch that and River Wild up, since there isn't much other 90s Goldsmith available to them. Smart move on Intrada's part though, because they still have dibs on the three (four if you count Mulan) Disney-owned titles. I wonder if Intrada or LLL will do the similarly Sony-owned The River Wild, and whether they will (hopefully) include Maurice Jarre's rejected score which is supposedly pretty good.

At least I think we can expect Dennis the Menace complete from LLL this year, as well as perhaps an old FSM Fox title or two given a facelift (Take a Hard Ride?) like Stagecoach, Tora! Tora! Tora!, etc.

Yes, indeed, and I hope we get it this year...but so far none of the Bluth films or Amblin films have received expanded releases. Although Intrada did put out Troll in Central Park, which had never received a release before. Ironic how scores which previously were passed over for release now often have more definitive releases because of no record label complications...

NIMH NIMH NIMH NIMH NIMH NIMH NIMH!!!!!

Hopefully we will see it this year. There is so much beautiful music missing from the OST.

Edit: Off the top of my head these musical cues are missing. Most of the music missing are the quieter underscore and most of it comes in the middle of the film.

(1) Mrs. Brisby in Mr. Ages Laboratory
(2) Mrs. Brisby & Ages travel the NIMH underground Labyrinth
(3) Mrs. Brisby meets Justin
(4) The water elevator
(5) Ages escorting Mrs. Brisby to Nicodemus
(6) Jenners evil plans
(7) Under mill boat ride
(8) Jeremy transfixed by Mrs. Brisby's amulet
(9) Auntie Shrew ties up Jeremy/Kids hold guard
(10) Drug Cat/Brisby trapped inside colander

STAR TREK V is still not complete!

What's missing?

I believe there is the escape from the "brig" scene (Scotty blows out the ceiling) followed by a chase scene the empty turbo-lift shaft. Kirk and McCoy are hanging onto Spock (who is wearing rocket boots) and launch up to an upper level where Kirk sends out an encrypted distress call just before Spock's 1/2 brother enters and reads their minds.

I dont think theres anything missing. The cue you are referring to I believe falls somewhere during tracks 16-19 of the Intrada version. One of those should have it.

I just re-watched the sequence I spoke of and I was incorrect. I thought I had remembered this sequence being scored. But it was not. So now I am curious as to what is not complete about this score.

On a side note though, I was not impressed with the Film version of "Without Help". The album version is much better in its performance and integrity with the shortening of the orchestral hits and the brief Klingon Theme statement.

Also, anyone notice when the synth glissando moment (beginning at -1:09 in the film version of this cue) sounds a bit troublesome when it reaches a point and holds, almost quivering as though its trying to hit a note it cannot reach (at -1:04) and then the Star Trek Theme Breaks in almost as though it is a bad edit?

I won't be satisfied until I have that missing 25 seconds from LOVE FIELD...

As for Deep Rising, it's a short CD; a little over 30 minutes I believe. Here's hoping Intrada would look into this release.

I was disappointed that the main title cue (the more Rambo-esque theme with heavy kettle drums/timpani version on the album) was cut from the picture and replaced with a version and very well may be temped in from the "boarding" cue). So much of the material is developed further. Though, the monster theme would be revisited and modified for Star Trek Nemesis.

There is actually much more music from Love Field than people realize. There is the whole "escape from the Bus Depot" scene that is over five minutes long that encompasses several short passages when the cop is interrogating Michelle Pfeiffer and the kid, the conversation between Michelle Pfeiffer and the kid in the bathroom and then the long varied meter action music outside when Dennis Haysbert and Michelle Pfeifer are trying to steal the car and escape unnoticed with the kid.

It is a treat to have on the album several cues that WERE cut from the film, nearly half of the first half of the album is not in the film.

I've started to cease being surprised that even "minor" Goldsmith titles benefit greatly from expansion. The man just exemplified thoughtfulness and superior architecture in his writing for even the most terrible films.

How many people here thought Forever Young, The Edge, or Bad Girls didn't merit an expansion, and then had to revise their opinion when they heard the scores complete?

I think 2 Days in the Valley is complete (or almost all there). This was a film that features a whole bunch of songs so a 40 minute score makes sense for this one.

Same with Six Degrees of Separation.

WHAT KIND OF AVATAR IS THAT WITH THE REPEATED VIDEO FROM A SCENE OF A JIM CARREY MOVIE? I WOULD LIKE TO GET MY OWN KIND AND DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS CALLED OR WHERE TO GO OR HOW TO MAKE MY OWN ONE?

Maybe Varese will release expanded Flint soundtracks to coincide with the Twilight Time's Blu-ray releases (& I wonder how much score is on the Blu-ray isolated music tracks?). I'll keep my fingers crossed when the next Club batch is announced.
