Much as I love them as film composers, I've long thought both Williams and Goldsmith to be woefully inconsistent (at best) when it came to selecting cues and producing albums of their work. This is true because of the word inconsistent. Jaws 2 has a masterful LP presentation, but that doesn't make LP arrangements, nor Williams' specifically, as a rule great, nor even good. The Mike Matessino expansions are truly a godsend. Sometimes artists are very poor judges of their own work. It's a shame that scores that are really very good (like Jerry's Star Trek: Nemesis and the last two Indiana Jones scores by Williams) end up being judged and dismissed based on their relatively poor album programs. It is a shame, though understandable for the listeners. Regardless of what we've grown to know about the business of releasing soundtracks, I think we still take as granted that they will at least be representative, if they won't be comprehensive. It feels like a setup a little, doesn't it. I had fair warning on the Dial of Destiny disc, so I knew what I'd be hearing, the Accidental Tourist edition of the score, the nice music, warm music, contemplative etc. Whether it's what I should expect from an Indiana Jones score or not, once informed, it was what I should have expected from this release, a compilation of music which sits more comfortably next to Always, Fablemans or Sabrina than it does Last Crusade or Harry Potter, and it's a nice one of those. Some years ago, I made compilations of the Lord of the Rings scores for my late grandmother, which she loved, until the Black Riders music popped in. It made her mildly wince with something other than preference. It genuinely bothered her, that blast of anger in the middle of all this loveliness. I remade them and removed that stuff, even some of the action music that got too propulsive or dark. For her, those were interruptions on the level of "Money" in Dark Side of the Moon. At the time, she had a boyfriend, a fun, bright guy who'd lived a life and seen stuff, and I recall that regarding her ever-on television, when The X-Files came on, she asked to turn it, not for her - she though it was fascinating - but for him, because not gore, not suspense, but 'darkness' really bothered him. He'd grown increasingly sensitive to that, specifically, near the end of his life. Broadly, it seems like some people are bothered by tonally jarring stuff, and maybe for Williams, the action/adventure music was too much of that for what he though would make a nice album. That doesn't take away from any desire for the adventure music, nor should it. It's integral to the film, and the whole score's character; we should miss it, and challenging the judgment behind this presentation is well warranted. In the mean time, I'll have the disc I'll have, and enjoy it on its own terms as the collection of light music it is, whether it should be or not.

Hey, apologies if this is discussed elsewhere, but when it comes to the DoD LP (which I ordered when the CD sold out so fast), has that actually come out? Did anyone receive it? My credit card was charged back in August, I noticed belatedly, but I haven't received it, or any of the Legacy CDs I ordered at the same time. I figured the entire order was held up due to the LP pre-order status, but now that it's October, and I was charged back then, I'm wondering what's up! I've written them, but I thought I would sound folks out here. I haven't noticed anyone discussing the LP, though I may have missed it ... Thanks.

I've heard nothing on my LP order. No updates or communication....nothing. Great customer service. Let me know if you get a response from them.

I ordered on August 24 and I'm still waiting too. When I click on the link in my order confirmation email (which I do every couple of days) it still just says IN PROGRESS.

IMO, the saddest thing is, besides the miss & miscommunication, the treatment of the most beloved film score composer for several generations is.... The album isn't any good. I was in the stress area you guys are....will it arrive? Will my Williams collection have a glaring hole?? When it did arrive, I shut down all distractions and gave the album my full attention. I was restless within 20mins, if not sooner. Now, mileage will vary (Yo Henry!). My mood was good, I was very eager to hear this. As a lifelong Williams fan....I was absolutely let down. And I actually LIKED the film, very much! I do see & respect the called out flaws though. I'll keep this, keep revisiting. As an Indy album, its lacking....but as a Williams album unto itself, it's pitiful. The highlight called to John Barry for me....not what any Johnny score should do. Point is...don't stress too much gang. This Disney fiasco is mountaining a molehill. More power to anyone who hears this and feels the bliss "our best scores" provide. Works like Conan, Nevsky, TMP...you know, the infallible classics. Dial was a lazy, sad & poorly produced thing IMO. As soon as I felt a smidge of energy...I was met with 20mins of under dialogue, depressed atmosphere. Then a quick action cue. And...another 20 odd mins of forgettable ambience for a forgettable section of the film (the underwater stuff).
