Since this thread has moved to the top of the page, I'll take the opportunity to toss my question onto the pile --

John Morris' High Anxiety was hinted at possibly being in the pipeline a few years back -- any chance?

(And of course -- although not hinted -- Young Frankenstein?)

One more question, MV ...

Any current plans to try to get any MARCO BELTRAMI expansions off the ground? I thought the Yuma release was very important and love it.

Thanks in advance!

Any chance a release of Tale of Tales by Alexandre Desplat is possible?

Considering you guys released a few John Murphy scores in the past, ever considered releasing his underrated score for Miami Vice?

Can we expect The Long Kiss Goodnight by Alan Silvestri some day?

1. Why did you guys release Speed 2 before Speed, were they both being worked on at the same time or could you not work on Speed 1 without first doing Speed 2?

2. Which project was held up the longest due to waiting for a sign off on the project even though the score was complete and ready to be sold?

3. How do you pick which John Williams or Hans Zimmer score to do, do their representatives tell you which of their titles are available for expansion? I know you can't get Star Wars but how does 1941 get worked on and released before a Jurassic Park? They are both great scores so I was just wondering about the order of things there. How do you get to do Broken Arrow first but not Black Rain or Backdraft?

4 Whose idea was it to to Dead Again as I love the score and was so happy to see an expanded release even though it is not a popular title.

Thanks for any info.

So here are the questions answered so far: part 1 (covering the first 15 pages, but leaving out the non-soundtrack related ones...)

1. We chose to do Speed 2 first because it was a score I always wanted, but never got. Speed was an after thought.

2. We are going through 2 projects right now. One going on 3 years and another 2 years. Both are done and waiting for sign offs for various reasons

3. We work with what we can work with. A label's gotsta know it’s limitations. Working with Mr Williams’ and his people has been wonderful and is leading us to other exciting projects. We hope to work with Mr Zimmer again in the near future.

4. Dead Again was all me. I love the score and wanted every note of it.

How many scores are left from you that you have wanted to do if you had a label, and now do?

3

Are there any scores you are not interested in releasing at all

Yes

Only question I have is are there any expanded or previously unreleased James Horner scores on the map for 2017?

Yes

What project caused you the most headaches?

Many have a varying degree of difficulty but the unreleased LLLCD 1335 is definitely the winner and for no other reason than the prod co. just doesn’t see it as a high priority. And when you see what the title is you will scratch your head and wonder why. Its a magnificent score and cool film. Both the director and composer worked with us on it, but not even they can get the prod co to sign off on it. Hopefully some day.

Well there goes my theory that it was The Great Race...

Should we fans of older music still keep our hopes up for that, expanded Diary of Anne Frank, and the Waxman twofer you have alluded to in the past, or have those plans been abandoned in the wake of Giant?

There is always hope.

Are there any plans to look into releasing more of the Hans Zimmer/Media Ventures action scores from the 1990s like Crimson Tide and The Rock?

We would love to some day.

Any chance we'll ever see a release of Carter Burwell's The Jackal from LLL?

Possible, but not in 2017

Any scores from other labels you wished you had released?

Hell yeah -- TONS!

Will we ever see an expanded Goldenthal/Warner Bros title (Heat, Interview with the Vampire, A Time to Kill)?

Probably not

Do you think you might be going to Comic-Con this year and in any case, any DCAU releases planned for this year?
No plans as of yet (personally I won't be there regardless), but we will be at Wondrcon this year!

As for DCAU, we have some plans.

Maybe MIDNIGHT RUN is LLLCD 1335???
Nope, hopefully 2018. Got a few UMG titles to work on before Midnight Run.

What do you mean by "sign off on it"? Does the production company have to come up with all the legal paperwork and literally sign it? Or do you guys do all the legal paperwork and it just a matter of having the prod co. review and sign it?
Sometimes we draw up contract, sometimes they do. Sign off means they sign off on the art and master, thus approving it for production.

And how often do you guys have to meet with the prod co. before anything meaningful cam happen? Or is most of the negotiating on the phone and/or email?

98% over the phone or email

Why did you choose La La Land for your label name?
Because Varese and Intrada were taken!

Any chance for more Trevor Jones releases, especially "Excalibur" but also "Last of the Mohicans" and all the other legendary ones?
Would love to but seriously doubt it

Besides the DC Universe (which we all love) - does LLL have any other animated projects in the works?
Short answer - Yes

Long answer - Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

Okay didn't expect MV to actually answer questions. What a guy! So I'll will take a stab.

Any Amblin or DreamWorks expanded animated scores in the pipeline? An American Tail, Land Before Time, Prince of Egypt, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, etc?

Fingers crossed

smile

Any chances for any Miklos Rozsa release in 2017 ?
Not from us

Any chances for some Golden Age releases in 2017 ?
Yes definitely

In the past five years or so, there have been various titles hinted at coming that were not mentioned again. Specifically

MacGyver (US seasons only)
ALF
Thundercats
Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea
X-Men

I'm not expecting them anymore, but were these canned due to tough licensing issues?

Yes
No
Can't
Maybe
Definitely

I greatly appreciate NICK OF TIME. Is there any chance of future Arthur B. Rubinstein releases?
It's been quite some time since I've seen a John Morris release (from any label, but never mind). Are any on the table for the future?
David Newman. Anything?

1. Possibly

2. Possibly

3. Definitely

What are the chances of more 90's Mancina, especially Assassins and Fair Game (combined with Kamen's rejected scores perhaps)

Very good

I sincerely hope that we'll be scratching our heads at WICKER PARK by Cliff Martinez - loved that score.

No plans for that one at this time

wonder if there will any 60`s or 70`s TV-Series scores (no cartoons) released this year by LaLaLand (besides WONDER WOMAN, wich was confirmed to released 2017)?

Maaaaybeeeee

Here are mine MV:

1. Jerry Goldsmith - Supergirl

2. Dave Grusin - Tequila Sunrise

3. John Barry - The Man With The Golden Gun

4. Moonlighting, music from all seasons 1-5

5. Miles Goodman - K-9 (1988)

Nope x5 but all wonderful suggestions

MV, I recall the score for Friday Night Lights (TV show) was announced a few years back and then cancelled, is it still out of reach or is there any chance it will still see a release?

Not by us

By the way, does La La Land do any Japan anime scores that have never been released on CD here in the states?

Nope
Any more David Arnold in your future?

We surely hope

Any upcoming unreleased Conti MV, I could really go for one?

Sadly No. We were gonna do Baby Boom (even spent money on it), but only the synth overlays exist. Nothing else

Anything more in the works from Shuki Levy? (Or this?)

Doug Katsaros composed this gem(i.e. the theme for The Tick. Additional from me: he also did the one for Bucky O'Hare And The Toad Menace/Wars, which is great itself.)

Ah, very cool, but no plans at this time.

Could you rerelease the complete Goodbye Mr. Chips? Market prices are astronomical, and it deserves to stay in print.

I think Watertower is doing this one again.

1. LLL issued some expanded editios in last years. new editions of "Ghost" or "usual suspects" in near futute are possible?

1. Wish we could

2. After release of "The egyptian"- any herrmann's material in the plans?
2. I wish.

3. any kamen or elfman coming in 2017?
3. Yes

4. Any plans to release some Maurice Jarre's scores ?
4. Nothing on the immediate schedule

Have you heard any new details on the status of the tapes for Williams' Dracula '79?
Wish we were doing it should one come out.

MV, is there any chance for Conti's DYNASTY? Conti wrote the theme and wrote the pilot score and another episode and they're fantastic! Also, what about 8 SECONDS, a beautiful score. Another great Conti theme and pilot score is FALCON CREST, possibly my favorite.
No plans at this time, but certainly a possibility in the future

MV, is Batman & Robin still locked or it could be coming in the near future ?
Nothing planned at this time

I ve got only one question. since you guys are doing lots of Tv Shows, is there any chance for a real Buffy set? I love Beck's score, and he wrote a lot of music who needs to be released!
A 4 disc box set of Buffy Music that covers all 7 seasons (sans the musical) ala The X-Files Volume One? Why, that sounds like a great idea to coincide with the show's 20th anniversary in 2017!

Mmmmm....

smile

Any classic TV Western sets coming, with assorted top composers? Like Rawhide? Or Wagon Train?
Kritzerland has The Cisco Kid coming, so that's a good start.

Great question Basil. Something like RAWHIDE and WAGON TRAIN would be an instant buy for me.
I would think TV westerns from the late 50s and 60s would sell very well. TV westerns from that period had wonderful music scores. MV?

Fantastic music we would love to explore. I'm a sucker for Westerns

Would you consider reissuing Frank Comstock's 1962 masterpiece "Project Comstock: Music from Outer Space?" True, it is not a soundtrack, but it hits the heights of Star Trek and Lost in Space. The current CD version, paired with Russ Garcia's "Fantastica," is sourced from vinyl

I doubt it. Sorry.

Just wondering if you are able to clarify the position regarding John Barry's rejected scores to 'Goodbye Lover' and 'Year of the Comet'.......Are these stuck in permanent rights hell or are they possible any time reasonably soon.....?

Thanks for any info....

Nothing planned at this time

Anything by these two Bobs in the works? Either Bob Buckley or Bob Summers.
No.

Any news about a "Mike Post & Pete Carpenter" CD-Set (filled with "Rockford", "Magnum", "A-Team" etc.)
And how about a possible original "Airwolf"-score CD at least with the music from the pilot-movie. There was such great orchestral music written by Levay, that Mark Cairns couldn`t redo by using only synthesizers. (Nevertheless his CDs are gorgeous!)

Would love to tackle all that some day

How bout Angel?
That would be cool as well. You never know

Is there anything in the works by composers Chuck Lorre or Dennis C. Brown?

I'm sorry, but I have no idea who you are talking about. I'm sure they are talented composer, but it would help me, as well as most others reading this thread, if you were to cite a few examples of their work when you mention their names. It's not like you are asking about composers whose names are as well known as a Goldsmith, Barry, Tiomkin or Williams.

Thank you

(Dennis C. Brown did the score for the 1987 TMNT Series; Chuck Lorre is credited with writing the catchy theme song.)

Pardon my ignorance and thanks for clarification. Would love to release it. I wonder who owns the rights now and if the music even exists.

Several years ago you expressed interest in releasing some 'Harry Potter'. Did anything come of that?

And while I've got your attention, I just would like to say thanks for having helped get so much wonderful music out into the world. My CD collection would be pretty paltry if it weren't for you guys!

Hope to some day

Are we scheduling some more thrilling John Williams albums for this year ? I know you had mentioned to us last year that JFK and The Towering Inferno were scheduled for 2017. Are we on track for these for this year, at least? Grateful for these titles of course.

We would love to release more Williams this year.

How about releasing the CD to the Big Valley soundtrack that was released in the 60's? I'm scared to ask questions because La La Land may NOT be doing them?

Not scheduled for 2017 but certainly a title to consider. The problem with tv shows, both new and old, is the cost of transfering the elements and assembling them. A movie is simple, but a tv series is much more complicated. I think out ofall the labels out there, LLL is the leader in perserving classic as well newer tv series -- live action and animated. Some have sold well, while others faltered. Hell, I'd be willing to bet that at least 1/4 of our releases are tv soundtracks, perhaps even more.

1. With the recent release of Beverly Hills Cop and BHC2 by Harold Faltermeyer, can we hope to see a Fletch release?
1. On our shopping list

2. Any chance of an expanded Elfman Beetlejuice or Nightmare Before Christmas?
2. Maybe Beetlejuice, but Nightmare is pretty well covered

3. Could any of the cartoon/animation releases be The Real Ghostbusters?
3. Would love to some day

Any chance of some unreleased Tangerine Dream, maybe The Soldier?

Or, how about the Warner album of Goldsmith's The Swarm?

No TD at this time.

Buzz about town is that a release might be forthcoming

American chance of horror getting a second chance at LLL in 2017?

Kinda

I'm befuddled by Alien 3 being a composer issue. What's up, Goldenthal! What's going oooooonnnnnnnnnn!

(I'm case anyone misunderstood, I don't expect clarification.)

Its not a composer issue, its an element issue. Perhaps the composer has something. If so, its then an issue of securing album rights from the label, then additional track rights with the studio and then dealing with the possibility that the composer may want to release it on his own label. Some times deals can complicate dream releases. Look no futher than Excalibur and Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai, just to name two.

Are Sneakers and Titanic still as untouchable as they were when you initially sought to license them for expanded release?

Would love to some day

Also been wondering if Batman: Year One was ever on LLL's radar, and if by chance it's actually 1335? Most DC Animated scores have been released on CD, and I find it out that this one never was released.

I'm also curious if the DC Showcase Catwoman would be on that disc too.

There are a handful of good DC animated scores that didn't see the light of day at time of release.

I don't think it was about Year One specifically (maybe about All Star Superman), but I believe MV's answer was something like "We'd love to release it if the composer was on board"

Three Chris Drake DC animated scores were planned but eventually cancelled due to the composer. He did not like the mixes he had but didn't supply new ones for us to release. Sadly almost every single one of these CDs we have released have failed in terms of sales. We were very honored to release these great scores but they never seemed to have found much of an audience. Justice League Dark will be the final CD we release from the DC Animated films. As for some of the classic animated series, at this point we will just focus on Batman the Animated Series shows and most likely ignore all other incarnations from here on out due to lack of sales. In other words do not expect more Justice League, Superman, or Teen Titans from us in the future.

Any chance of doing a complete Neverending Story, even with the Limahl song?

Would love to someday

First thanks for the participation MV.
I'll take a stab. Any chance for Richard Rodney Bennett's Nicholas & Alexandra?

No plans at this time

I guess all the questions can't be answered, but another thing i d like to know is if there s at least one extended edition of a Christopher Young horror score? Cause i haven't seen one in a while, even on Intrada

I think mr. Young is pretty satisfied with everything of his that has come out and doesn't particularly want anything expanded. Thank you Thor LOL

Hi Mv really enjoying the Jurassic Park collection at the moment. Any sign of a complete Robin Hood Prince of Thieves being released?

Prince of Thieves remastered and complete would be a dream release. Perhaps someday. Perhaps it will come from another label.

I wonder if La-La Land would be able to release some of the music from Disney's Recess cartoon, or is that Intrada territory?

Intrada territory but I highly doubt there would be much of an audience for such a release.

--Any possibility of a SeaQuest box set containing music by various composers from all three seasons?
--Any chance of a box set from The Outer Limits (1995-2002)? Sonic Images released a single CD back in 1998 but there's tons of unreleased music.

No to both

Any more Elfman planned (apart from Midnight Run)?

Yes

I've been curious why they chose Horner's THE PAGEMASTER for a remastered release when only two minutes was missing. I have the new album and am indeed quite happy with it for the sound quality, just curious as to why they chose that over other Horner scores.
Any other Horner projects coming? I'd particularly love FIEVEL GOES WEST (there wasn't much missing from the original album, but I always loved the cue when Tiger was on the train and wish it was on there) or a remastered LAND BEFORE TIME.

Both of those would be welcome, though I would welcome an expansion or remaster of most Horner albums. Of course, I would LOVE to see either "Legends of the Fall" or "Glory" in this category, but again, anything from Horner is most welcome.

I'm sure it comes down to opportunity. Willingness of the licensor, availability of recording sessions, etc.

It's Horner, was OOP, easy license, remstered by Matessino, expanded, and art by Jim Titus. 'Nuff said.

What's the deal on Fright night 2, I'm not a Fiedel fan, i'm not really that fussed with this score, just wondering is there any rights prohibiting it.

Element issue I believe

Yes, but it's still missing several minutes of music
