What a wonderful treasure this set is. Still enjoying this in a cold evening weather. Treasue is a great word for the set. Did Herrmann ever write a wrong note?

Oh you rich sods with your...boxes. It's about time we had some indivdual releases, I want White Witch Doctor! Yes! If would be great if they did indivdual releases. This music deserves to be made available at a fair price to anyone who wants it. I'm sure if they made them available via the CD club sales would be brisk.

I wonder if Varese maintains rights in perpetuity to all (or some...maybe their earlier album of Ghost and Mrs. Muir means they retain rights to it) of these...in fact the same wondering applies to their Goldsmith at Fox box (after all it contained unreleased music from Alien, which later came out complete on Intrada). Could, say, Intrada, LLL, or Kritzerland with their new Fox connections rerelease White Witch Doctor, or put out a Detective/Von Ryan's Express doubleheader? Or if any of the Goldsmith material wasn't complete could it be expanded on by another label? I'm thinking A Tree Grows in Brooklyn or his episode scores for Anna and the King, here. I have the Goldsmith box but I'd purchase improved versions of the box-exclusive music. I on the other hand missed out on the Herrmann box (very frustrated about it) and would love for all of the new, remastered material in it to be available individually (obviously The Egyptian isn't necessary). Yavar

Yavar Yeah, I dunno. I can understand Varese having the rights in perpertuity of scores like, Journey To The centre Of The Earth, Planet Of The Apes, Cleopatra, Our Man/In Like Flint as they weren't limited to 3000 copies & they must have had to pay the AFM a small fortune, but the Herrmann box was limited to 1000 copies, so who knows? I'm sure if Bruce Kimmel could release some of these titles, then he would. Time will tell.

After the rage that came out of people over Varese's re-release of the Karate Kid scores as single albums, I think they'd be a touch hesitant. That always bothers me about some collectors. Some, not all, rub it in a bit when they have a set like this. I have this collection. Herrmann is my favorite film composer and there was no way I was not going to get the set. I see no problem whatsoever if Varese offered the CD's as individual releases. Let those few collectors cry and moan. Personally, I think it would be great if every film score fan had these CD's in their collection.
