I'm excited to hear this new score and any new thematic material that comes out of it. Trying to argue over opinions about whether a movie is good or not is as pointless as arguing with people over a new Game of Thrones episode. Enjoy what you enjoy and let others have their criticisms.

I've been at Star Wars Celebration twice and each time there have been more people dressed as Rey than anyone else.
In the 2016 Celebration in London, we got to watch Star Wars and The Force Awakens on a big screen. People cheered at their favourite moments. The biggest cheer by far - across both movies - was when Rey grabbed the lightsaber to fight Ren.

Was this a quid pro quo for taking WEST SIDE STORY off the Maestro’s plate? B-)

Well the Star Wars theme park based off the new trilogy is a bomb and Disney itself just said Star Wars merchandise sales have tanked and they're losing money.
Anyway back on the music. I guess its appropriate Williams finishes out the trilogy though his scores are very forgettable. Good for those that like "anything Williams", but I'll stick with the original trilogy music which never gets old.

Rey's theme is the standout. But I honestly cannot remember anything else from the first two films musically speaking. I can hum Star Wars, Empire and Jedi in my head all day long.
I'm gobsmacked.....had no idea that Johnny's brother was involved in this....he kinda brings it down to earth, though the completion of this saga by John Williams is far beyond any of us could have hoped for.
I attended this ASA event, which was mainly a score study session on Jurassic Park, but Don did talk a bit about Williams' Episode IX scoring thus far. They'd been recording on a leisurely schedule to allow him to more musically tailor the music to sequences as they're re-edited and Don noted that Williams has written some especially difficult, challenging cues for the film. Don said he is continually amazed at John's ability to keep pushing himself in new compositional directions. He did talk about how pretty much every major theme from the series makes an appearance, but he described how they will often be hidden or buried, showing up for only a few bars and something that only reveals itself on many listens. With 135 minutes of music and scored almost wall-to-wall, that should give us a clue as to the film's running time.

More seriously, it could be a quotation of Duel of the fates for the Phantom Menace....
I think he means the Emperor's Theme, since that deep male chorus -- spooky and phantom-like -- usually accompanies his appearances as a hologram, or hooded in his robe, or both.
I hope and assume he means "Duel of the Fates." That theme was criminally underused in the prequels. Its cameo in Episode II during Anakin's brooding speeder-bike ride has been the (sole) highlight of that film for me since the theater, and its brief nod at the end of Solo brought me as close to chills as I ever get in these movies.

No one really cares? Is that why these movies have made billions?
Did you ever think after decades of straight white men dominating movies behind and in front of the camera, it may be time to recognise that there is a lot more diversity in the world? Given the uproar over Rey (a woman) and Finn (a black person) by "fans", it's definitely time to address this. If that's "forcing diversity", good. It's needed.
