Wonder if the cues are the film versions. Some differ considerably like the Busan chase.

I love my Vinyl and I play it often. One of the BEST Scores of the year!! Great CD cover- almost better than Vinyl Cover-not.

  • It certainly is a brilliant score. The Killmonger-theme was all Göransson, by the way. He talked about it here: https://www.bmi.com/news/entry/catching-up-with-black-panther-composer-ludwig-goeransson

'I had to think about the orchestra in a different way. The different instruments in an orchestra – I thought about that more in a rhythmical kind of way and how would the strings fuse if I wrote the string part for a Sabar drum. Being able to infuse the orchestra into African music, instead of putting African music into an orchestra. Another big element of the score is the modern production, which is basically Killmonger’s [played by Michael B. Jordan] character. He has a more modern production sound to him. So for that I brought in modern 808s and more a trap beat vibe to traditional African rhythms.'

Thanks for this. I looked further into Goransson's background and it seems he can do a lot.

We happy to see Black Panther take home the Grammy for best score!

    https://www.cnet.com/news/black-panther-soundtrack-roars-with-grammy-awards-win/

"(Director) Ryan Coogler, what can I say?" Göransson said. "He's been one of the most incredible artists I've ever worked with, and being a part of this phenomena, one of the most important, unique films of all time is so special."

Göransson didn't get to accept that award onstage, as it wasn't presented during the televised ceremony, but he did get to make a speech during the show. He helped accept the song of the year award for Childish Gambino's This Is America, which he co-produced. Gambino did not attend.

Would an academy award win raise our chances of getting an official CD release?

I'm honestly, innocuously curious. Does anyone think much of this score? No offense meant to fans.

Personally last year it was the most impactful score to me. Watching the film for the first time, and seeing a person of colour on screen as the hero, and the musical elements of the score working so well - I teared up. It's one of the few time's that's happened to me watching a film that I can remember. The score captured the emotion and the significance of this film, and for me that's why I think so highly of it.

Thanks folks, I'm going to have to give both the movie and score another chance.

I enjoy the score quite a bit, and I listen to it pretty regularly. But then I am a sucker for most of the Marvel scores. Have you seen the movie? I thought the score was decently mixed in the film, and there were several times the score was allowed to shine. If you haven't seen it, it is currently streaming on Netflix.

I really enjoy it. Göransson is immensely talented.

Haven't seen the film or heard the score. Not familiar with the composer and Marvel scores generally don't do it for me. I might give it a spin on Spotify, but unless its really fantastic, not purchasing a download. As some say around here, "No CD, no sale!".

The whole rest of the movie could have been completely scoreless after the first appearance of the horn theme that opens the theme, right up until the horn bit appears again in the end credits, and the score would have deserved its Oscar. I pared down the ridiculously long album to like 55 minutes and even that is too much. But that horn bit always gets me.

I enjoyed it quite a lot. I really liked how Göransson employed some unusual percussion and changed up how he wrote for orchestra to give the score a distinct sound. The talking drum is a really interesting sound.

These are quite the reccomendations. I think I'll wait for the CD, though (but that's only because I'm a zealot).
