Good heaven's, I never thought to see the day... apparently, Amazon has managed to get rights to THE SILMARILLION, something I never thought would happen. Ever. That certainly explains some casting names and plot point of the upcoming TV show. Also, this show will then take place thousands of years before THE HOBBIT, not between THE HOBBIT and THE LORD OF THE RINGS. My interest in the show just went up a notch or two. Tolkien considered THE SILMARILLION his most important work and he started to work on it before writing THE HOBBIT and continued to work on it after having written THE LORD OF THE RINGS. It's episodic nature is particularly suited to television, so they might have something. https://geektyrant.com/news/amazon-managed-land-the-rights-to-jrr-tolkiens-the-silmarillion

Howard Shore is now linked to this: https://deadline.com/2021/09/the-lord-of-the-rings-composer-howard-shore-score-amazon-tv-series-middle-earth-jrr-tolkien-1234839274/ On the one hand, it's really good news, and I'd be more than happy to hear new big work from Shore, but on the other I can't fail to say that I want to hear how another composer will handle with music for this universe. As the article speaks, Shore is "in talks to compose the music", so it means Amazon is in search of a composer (or composers) at this moment. There is so many composers I want to hear in Middle Earth universe. Here are some examples: James Brett, Fernando Velazquez (he's more likely to get on series, since he worked at multiple projects of J. A. Bayona (director of two episodes of the LOTR series)), Joel McNeely, David Arnold, Lennie Moore, Debbie Wiseman, Joe Kraemer. Speaking of more big names John Powell, Christopher Young (he writes the music for Monkey King 1-2 which some people named Chinese Lord of the Rings), John Debney, Bear Mcreary, Ludwig Goransson, Alexandre Desplat. Ok, I think that's enough names for now In any case, I'd be glad if some of the composers, that I mentioned above, will create the music for Amazon series.

I'd add Dario Marianelli and this new super talented French composer called Mathieu Lamboley (his work on Minuscule 2 is stunning!) Just checked some tracks from "Minuscule 2" and really like the sound of it. I'll definitely listen the full album, thank you for the recommendation.

This made my day! I am absolutely thrilled at the prospect of new Middle-Earth music from Shore, if he is, indeed, attached to this. I do understand others wanting another composer involved, as we do have a lot of music from Shore in this world. But I think it's hard to overstate how magical his work was on the LOTR trilogy. I am completely ready for even more of that.

I also recommend Mathieu Lamboley's score to LUPIN (Netflix) great album, and series - and the composer even cameos in the finale of part 2. Thank you too. The only score for a movie about Arsene Lupin I'd listened before is Debbie Wiseman's "Arsene Lupin", so it's interesting to hear a different music perspective on the character (haven't watched the series and hear about it for the first time from your comment) from another composer.

I love Shore's music for the 6 films as much as the next guy but somehow I feel this should go to somebody else. Why not give someone like Carlos Rafael Rivera a chance for instance? As long as it is not a Zimmer disciple I'll be happy.

If I'd be Shore...I'd be bored to do another round...but I guess Money is the key For me THE HOBBIT Trilogy was already pretty uninspired except for that great song ...Not talking about the HOBBIT Movies themselves which were just horrible. None of us could possibly know that Shore's involvement with this series is because he's looking for some fat paychecks out of it. I would like to think it's because he's had so much enjoyment scoring for this world, and that it's a goldmine for lush, thematic writing that he did so well with Jackson's films. Also, given that it's (a thousand?) years before the events in the movies, and may look and feel quite a bit different, it might spark a lot of new, fresh material from Shore. And, if we cold accuse Shore of going for the cash grab on this by "doing another round", couldn't we accuse John Williams of the same for the Star Wars franchise? I would never think that of John Williams and I don't think it of Howard Shore either. The Hobbit music doesn't strike me as being uninspired, even though it does fall short of LOTR. In fact, the Hobbit films have some of the finest music we've heard this century. I'd kill to have more music like this, as it is becoming rarer and rarer these days.

TheOneRing.net (TORN) is reporting this as well, but also that Bear McCreary is attached and they will be working together. Their article has some interesting quotes from Shore in recent years about his desire to return to Middle-earth to compose new themes. https://www.theonering.net/torwp/2021/09/19/111495-howard-shore-and-bear-mccreary-to-soundtrack-lotr-on-prime-series/ As much as I love Shore, and would be more than happy if he alone were attached to this, I'm also a big fan of McCreary's work. The idea of a collaboration between the two is very intriguing and I can't wait to see what it will sound like. I wonder if Shore will focus on the themes only and if Bear will carry the weight of most of the music, or if it will be more evenly distributed. It's going to be a long year waiting to see what they come up with.
