I know it was mentioned before that Murder By Death source elements could not be located but I don't care. I still wish for a nice turn of events and hope Murder By Death will be part of the bunch. It would be a perfect pair with the movie coming out on Blu-Ray for the first time next month. I would not mind Prescription: Murder either!!
Prescription: Murder should be saved for the complete Columbo season 1 two disc set. (Including the two pilot scores, everything just barely fits on two CDs.)

Yavar
Please don't get me started on how amazing a Columbo Season 1 set would be: Grusin, Billy Goldenberg, Gil Mellé. It would be fantastic! Okay, it's time to calm down. Back to Grusin now!
Well there can't be too many of those. We should be able to come up with a shortlist.
I'd suggest My Bodyguard isn't one of them, because Roger and Bruce have been clear on no tapes existing.
Perhaps they could release the surviving material from Murder By Death.
Well, Im still going to hold out hope for MY BODYGUARD, one of my last remaining "holy grail" scores. In the past few years there have been many scores thought lost forever that have materialized. Staying positive
Well there is quite a number of unreleased scores by Gruisin: IT TAKES A THIEF PRESCRIPTION:MURDER WHERE WERE YOU WHEN THE LIGHTS WENT OUT THE BOLD ONES THE MAD ROOM A MAN CALLED GANNON TELL THEM WILLIE BOY IS HERE ADAM AT & AM DAN AUGUST GENERATION HALLS OF ANGER THE INTRUDERS THE BADGE AND THE CROSS DEADLY CALM THE FORGOTTEN MAN THE GANG THAT COULDNT SHOOT STRAIGHT PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS THE FAMILY RICO FUZZ WATERHOLE no. 3 ( score ) THE GREAT MINNESOTA RAID SHOOT OUT THE MIDNIGHT MAN THE NICKEL RIDE DEATH SQUAD A HOWLING IN THE WOODS THE OATH THE TRAIL OF CHAPLAIN JENSEN MURDER BY DEATH MR. some of them might be TV Themes only not sure..but some stuff to release.
So do we know how many copies this 3 disc is going to be? Cause if it’s a 1000 it’s a easy sell out!! Especially If the scores r : My Bodyguard & justice for all Absence of malice Murder by death
I would have preferred that with "3 Days of the Condor" on the FSM cd. Or maybe it would have been better with "Eddie Coyle," given the subject matter. Yeah, I know, different film studios would prevent it.
There might be a combination of film and tv scores. BTW just released on dvd is Dan August with theme by Grusin. It's arriving any minute now at my door. So I'd be very happy if Dan August showed up on this Varese release.
Dan August ? Dan August ???? *SALIVATING* 'SALIVATING EVEN MORE* This would be too much to wish for...
Yes DAN AUGUST and IT TAKES A THIEF...but thats not Varese I guess...more LALA or Quartet. Also THE FUZZ etc...too bad. I guess it´ll be the ones already mentioned. MALICE together with AND JUSTICE FOR ALL And maybe MURDER BY DEATH..which that title alone would be a sensation!
Should be out right now...no??? Wasn't it announced 30th ?
VARÈSE SARABANDE RECORDS ANNOUNCES THE DAVE GRUSIN PREMIERE COLLECTION:
…AND JUSTICE FOR ALL – Dave Grusin ABSENCE OF MALICE – Dave Grusin MURDER BY DEATH – Dave Grusin THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS – Dave Grusin
(November 30, 2018– Los Angeles, CA) – Varèse Sarabande Records proudly announces The Dave Grusin Premiere Collection available TODAY!
It’s no secret that we are huge fans of Dave Grusin at Varèse Sarabande! We are excited to be releasing four previously unreleased treasures from the Sony Pictures vaults. For a limited time purchase a 3-CD bundle featuring four Dave Grusin scores …AND JUSTICE FOR ALL, ABSENCE OF MALICE and MURDER BY DEATH coupled with score from THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS, as a bonus. All three discs are available as a bundle for a special price before they are released for sale separately on January 4th. This is a great deal for Dave Grusin completists!
The 1979 courtroom drama, …AND JUSTICE FOR ALL is best remembered for the brilliant line Al Pacino shouts out in court, “You’re out of order! You’re out order! The whole trial is out of order!” The movie went on to great critical and box office success and was nominated for two Academy Awards. The score is pure Dave Grusin - funky, jazzy and melodic. The score was transferred from master sources from the Sony Pictures vaults. The CD contains the Mono film version of the soundtrack as well as the stereo remix along with bonus score tracks not used in the film.
ABSENCE OF MALICE, the 1981 drama, stars Paul Newman, Sally Field and Melinda Dillon. Newman, Dillon and writers Kurt Luedtke and David Rasyfel were all nominated for Oscars. This movie was one of numerous collaborations between Dave Grusin and director Sydney Pollack.
The 1976 film, MURDER BY DEATH, is among the most requested of Grusin’s unreleased scores by fans. The satirical murder mystery was directed by Robert Moore and features an all-star cast of Eileen Brennan, Truman Capote, James Coco, Peter Falk, Sir Alec Guinness, David Niven, Peter Sellers, Maggie Smith and Nancy Walker. The score is a satire of murder mysteries and it rises to the task with a wonderful and melodic main title. The sources provided by Sony are in mono but sound superb. This is one of those scores you will be humming after listening to it.
As a bonus we have added the music from the 1971 Robert Mulligan film, THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. The movie stars Michael Sarrazin, Barbara Hershey and E.G. Marshall. The plot is about a young college student who is sent to prison for killing a pedestrian with his car. When the opportunity presents itself, he escapes and is subsequently on the run with his girlfriend. On top of the maestro’s score, we have included the Randy Newman main/end title credit song, “Let Me Go,” which is also used in variations during key moments in the film.
Transferred from master sources uncovered in Sony Pictures vaults, these four scores represent the very best of Dave Grusin. The Dave Grusin Premiere Collection and other soundtrack masterpieces are available now at Varèse Sarabande.
Once again, I'm assuming the releases will be all from one studio, and, if we're talking four scores, that means either all Universal, all Columbia, maybe all Warners, possibly United Artists/MGM (but I doubt it) unless Varese has found a way to do a multi-studio deal, ala Universal France's composer compilations.
What the hell, until 10 PST it's all pissing in the wind. And I'm sure I will be in for what ever is released.
