] Regarding the Obsession releases ...I'm sure sales were hurt for both. Purchased the Tadlow version and very happy with that release. To me, it's hard to beat having the two discs in the Tadlow. I crank up the second disc on my surround sound and bliss out. Such a great score. I don't care how many resissues of Obsession there may be, any fan of Bernard needs the Tadlow imo.

Well, if Mr. Stromberg is looking for another title to record, as mentioned earlier a complete re-recorded 'The Ghost and Mrs. Muir' would be absolutely wonderful. One of the greatest scores by Herrmann. Although I really love the version Elmer Bernstein did, it's just way too short. I'd second on the GHOST /MRS MUIR album. A complete score recording of Herrmanns own favourite score would be highly appreciated. The OST is there but the recording is a relic of its time. And the Bernstein version is way too short. Also most eligible is ON DANGEROUS GROUND. Stromberg & Co have already handled the 'Death Hunt' cue and a few related cues on their NERETEVA cd set. So, I am most eager for that full noir score to get an up close recording of this hidden gem. Ofcourse ENDLESS NIGHT and the aborted Stromberg/Morgan project of the full JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH would also be a great contender for future projects. A complete, rerecorded Ghost and Mrs. Muir would be wonderful.

Prior to the Quartet recording, THE BRIDE WORE BLACK was hand's down my number one re-recording wish. Now that's done, if Bill was looking for suggestions, I'd vote for: 1. On Dangerous Ground—I love this score but it only exists in poor sound 2. Psycho—but done to the film tempo this time; and with the film recording's aggressiveness 3. Endless Night—just because it's about the most unavailable thing there is 4. The Ghost and Mrs Muir—because while we have both the OST and a re-recording, this is Benny's GREATEST score; and sadly the OST sounds really poor due to ageing; and the Bernstein, though wonderful, is nowhere near complete and isn't as faithful as it could be in the nuances of the main title. I'd actually be all up for another The Ghost and Mrs Muir. Cheers

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is near the very top of my favorite scores, but in this one case I don't think a re recording is necessary. The complete 1947 Fox recording released several years ago is really all you need. It's in real stereo, conducted by Herrmann himself, but most importantly captures the true ambiance of this haunting score. There is something about hearing this score in true stereo at the time it was created that gets to me.... Well, it is great but not quite 'true' stereo. The Elmer Bernstein recording, while not complete. is in stereo and well worth obtaining! brm

I wish Quarter had a volume control on their samples, that way I don't have to re-adjust the main volume on the computer just to turn it down, then forcing me to re-adjust the volume on online content I am watching or listening to at the same time (no speakers here to adjust).

But are we simply retreading that often trodden path of “But what I really want is...” and taking the spotlight away from what could be an opportunity to rejoice that a label has embarked on a new recording of a score that hasn’t been released in full before? Chris Yes, this always happens - it's a real phenomenon. I'm looking forward to hearing this!

Chris Just for the record, what I really want is THE BRIDE WORE BLACK! It's just that a side-bar conversation started about what Bill Stromberg could record if he's looking for more projects. I participated in that, but I'm still all about THE BRIDE WORE BLACK.

I for one did not feel I needed the Tadlow Obsession given how clear and crisp the original recording was when I got it. They do a fantastic job but I was satisfied by the clarity of the Quartet release. What Quartet release? The two-CD Obsession was released by Music Box.

IIRC, the Music Box CD of the original OBSSESSION tracks was released about six months or so before the Tadlow rerecording. No doubt that the Music Box release impacted the Tadlow sales. Personally, I'm delighted to have both of those CDs in my collection. Both are essential for me. Since OBSESSION is my favorite piece of music, I'd love William Stromberg to record a performance of it as well. But realistically, that probably won't happen. So, ENDLESS NIGHT and COMPANIONS IN NIGHTMARE are my top wants. Did Herrmann write enough music for PORTRAIT OF JENNIE to be considered for a suite rerecording? I was under the impression he composed a theme for only the Jennie character, but I could be wrong!

It has one glaring flaw, but otherwise it really is definitive.

Ok you've made me curious: what flaw is that, Roger? (And is there any chance of an expanded/complete release of this version of the score?) Yavar

Chris Yes, it is as annoying, rude, and counterproductive as it is predictable. NK
