So out of curiosity, is the Escape from the Planet of the Apes score on this set a bit slower than the Varese club CD? I notice it's 1:10 slower and each track is longer. I know some scores have had speed issues that were corrected on subsequent releases.

Are you saying you played the samples and the pitch is "slower," or that the track times are longer? If latter, maybe different gaps between tracks?

Yavar, you have the same rights as I do. You must have a lot of free time . Your repetitive complaints about my attitude is "old hat" already. Get used to it .

You're being ridiculous. I can't say much that Yavar hasn't already said, but your initial comment was very negative. I admit this release is not for me, but you don't see me insulting LLL over it, do you?[/endquote

Since when is any human being above reproach ... label record heads, Yavar, me , you.

How about we let the baby take its first few breaths, guys.

Yes, yes, yes. I have not been on here too much lately and I come back to the
usual whining and complaining to you kids who think they are entitled to everything.
If you are not wanting this released, walk away or start your own label. There is
nothing like putting your hard work and money into a set like this and have someone
rip it apart. I am just glad they are not in cardboard sleeves or wallet. wink

Yeah, that reminds me, where's the POTA lunchbox?!?! No deluxe release is complete without one.
Coulda swore there were ones for the movies.

I wonder if there's an alternate Dr. Zaius theme for the alternate Edward G. Robinson.

I love the fact that Williams' LOST IN SPACE music was used for the demo film. Also, what a great new box set, LLL. Just fantastic.

Has anyone else noticed that it's become standard operating procedure for certain people/groups/affiliations to question the employment status of anyone calling their thinking into question? It's a tired ploy that reeks of not having a leg on which to stand.

In any case, this is a fantastic release. These scores should always be in print.

Completely thrilled. Beyond words. For two reasons....

LLL

and...

MM

Enough said with those letters. And given their involvement and track record, there shouldn't be one damn complaint about this release. Not one.

Wah.....

Yes I would like to see soundtrack collectors return to their senses and appreciate the scores of Korngold, Rozsa, Waxman, Newman, Tiomkin,Friedhofer, Young, etc. Get it through that growth on your neck that there's no " wah" involved. Just telling it the way I see it. Just like Lalaland sees it the other way and satisfies its base. MV is not the only one satisfying his base.

I just noticed that the Varese POTA lists 17 tracks (not including the "Escape" suite) with the last being titled "The Revelation (part II) running 3:15. This is not listed on the Lalaland POTA disc. Explanation requested. Thanks.

Varese has 17 tracks (compared to the new disc's 16) because they have an additional track for the studio fanfare at the very start.

Right.
Because over the last few decades virtually NOTHING has been released by these composers.
Nothing!

It's not that LLL hasn't tried, y'know... but according to them in recent years their golden age titles have not sold well (Newman's A CERTAIN SMILE, for instance.)

You also can't fault people on this board, whose tastes (naturally) vary. I happen to collect Golden Age scores, but for every one of me, there are five or ten in my age bracket who aren't the least bit turned on by them. And you know, so what? You're not going to get anyone to "return to their senses" when their senses have never been to where you're asking them to go in the first place.

Music does not exist in some kind of bookish stasis. The great golden age composers you mention above would, despite their egos, acknowledge that there are masters in nearly every era, and yes, Goldsmith qualifies. Victor Young and Miklos Rózsa appreciated the work of Elmer Bernstein. Goldsmith was one of Rózsa's students; Alfred Newman was a huge fan, as was Alex North.

Perhaps above all, nearly EVERYONE has acknowledged the groundbreaking brilliance of Goldsmith's music for PLANET OF THE APES at the time of the film's original release, let alone in the half century that's followed. (At the time, most living Golden Age masters did as well.) Who cares what year it was written if it's an acknowledged masterpiece that's good the test of time not only with fans but with musicologists and "serious" musicians as well?

I'll buy any of those composers Cody, and add Steiner, Raksin, Moross, Salter, Skinner, Herrmann, Bernstein etc. Real music by real composers. I hope the Apes Box is a big seller for LLL as I'm sure many will want it.

Thanks for bringing me back to my senses.
I had.forgotten what ' real' music is ( despite growing up in a family of professional musicians and being a trained musician myself)

PFK, Lalaland's base is not in Carnegie Hall or The Palladium; it's in Comic-con...duh !
