Well the album presentation tagged on is possibly an MCA / UMG thing, a few old MCA titles that got expanded ended up with the OST being preserved. Perhaps it's a condition of licencing where there are existing song albums? Suits me just fine in any case.
The songs are actually really important. They're integral to the film and are performed by its star, Lea Thompson. I completely understand Intrada's desire to include them! (They weren't "tagged on")
Sure, I'd rather the original LP had been 100% score - some great stuff missing (including a full-on Bond fight cue!) - but that's the past now. This set is going to be THE DUCKIEST!
One cannot judge a score by it's cover—or by association with the disaster it sank with.
By all accounts, the full 100 minutes of Barry's music is as revelationary as THE GOLDEN CHILD, i.e. one of the most thematically rich and varied scores of Barry's career—an epic score embracing love, suspense, mystery, jeapardy, action and adventure.
Those who've heard the whole thing (me, I've only heard the album and what's in the film, so far) say it's pretty much a 'best of everything he was doing' score—everything we like rolled up into one.
I wish to high heaven that this music could have been for something other than such a bomb as HOWARD THE DUCK, but at least we no longer have to endure the film to savour the music.
I know John Barry gets a lot of stick on this forum, which tends more towards masters of high-octane, big-and-busy action scoring, but you also know I personally think John Barry is the fine wine of film composers, to too many others who are Coca-Cola, Red Bull or, God forbid, Prosecco.
That means this could well be the release of the year for me.
As for it being 3 CDs—brilliant.
If you're going to do a score, do it once and do it properly.
100 minutes ... yes, this is going to be one stupendous release. For us Barry fans and the canon it's impact will be seismic - accolades should flow to Intrada for bringing the project to fruition.

I'm leaning towards Willow, as it was around the same time and its produced by Lucas. It has to be a connection like that they are hinting at, not another Barry title.

Okay dumb question. Which Tuesday is this being released? Roger's comments are confusing (to me). This release was supposed to come out last week. But won't. Stated on a Wednesday. Said someone will miss this and try to buy it on Tuesday anyway. (Being Wednesday Tuesday has come and gone) So is the release set for tomorrow or in two Tuesdays? While we're at it who else though Tuesday Weld was hot?

The release that was supposed to be out this week was delayed at the plant, so it will be paired with the release that was already scheduled in a couple of weeks.
so more likely in two weeks! since there was PLURAL in the opening post.
