I'm just HAPPY to know that Lalaland , who I criticized a lot over the past year, has released many older scores in one big beautiful box set. I hope you will criticize them less over the coming year. LLL has released many "older scores" over the years; it's just a smaller ratio of their releases because sales sadly aren't often there any more for stuff of this vintage. Yavar

As you yourself acknowledged above, “you love to post” criticisms of LLL for not tackling enough Golden Age titles.... you state this as a fact but surprisingly stop short of an actual apology for that regular criticism of LLL in the light of this generous 11 score set (which has been in the works for years). It comes across very much as, “I’m going right back to complaining about LLL if they don’t keep this up.” There’s no indication that you learned a lesson about toning down your criticism, even though you acknowledged its existence. So yeah, I do feel like it doesn’t hurt to remind you about the realities of the market, even as a big Golden Age fan myself. I certainly don’t care whether you think I post too often or too lengthily. But it’s certainly strange that you do, because no one is forcing you to read any posts of mine that you deem to be too long. Seems to me that’s less of a problem for you than me calling you out for your occasionally (quite) rude behavior towards LLL and even Kritzerland. If I posted rarely, and posted more succinctly, I think you’d still get angry at me for doing so. Yavar

You want to be in conflict with me that's fine. I blame myself for even replying to you. Consider yourself persona non grata. I don't want to be in conflict with anyone, to be honest. But I admit I find myself compelled to call people out when they are being jerks. I seem pretty welcome at this board in general, but since I'm "persona non grata" with you, please feel free to utilize the board's "ignore" function and keep your blood pressure low. I bear you no ill will; I just wish you generally had a more positive attitude towards the labels even when they don't release music you care about. Here I am telling MV how much I made a mistake of thinking for the past year that he had no love for golden age and that ...... is telling me I am going to go back to my old ways. Using ellipses to avoid writing someone's name is a new one to me! I recognized that you acknowledged your criticism of MV in the past; I didn't however notice you express any apology or regret about it, though it seems you feel it was implied and now at least refer to it as a "mistake". I fear (though I'm not certain) that you will "go back to your old ways", because it's what you've done in the past, if a label goes too long without a Golden Age release -- even Kritzerland, and they've released more Golden Age titles than any other label since FSM sadly closed up shop. (Is Bruce Kimmel "persona non grata" with you as well? Because he told you off much more harshly than I ever have.) LLL has released at least a couple dozen Golden Age titles over the years. It's not like they pretend the era doesn't exist. I will be very happy if this time you actually continue a positive attitude even *if* you have to wait a year or more for another Golden Age title from LLL. At least we know an expanded The Diary of Anne Frank is still in the works, and when it comes out I'll be right there celebrating with you! Yavar

Yavar I know you love to post. Sometimes with long dissertations that I don't want to read. This one was short, but very unnecessary. I thought my statement would be good enough. You don't have to tell me the nature of today's soundtrack market. Gee whiz, cody, give it a rest, why don't you? Yavar is one of the best members here at the board - always friendly, enthusiastic and informative. There is literally no reason to be rude to him. Since when does he need a reason? He attacks me all the time for no reason.

Looks like the lines have been drawn and everyone knows where they stand. In the spirit of avoiding an O.K. Corral style bloodbath that will just get a great thread locked down, I propose a change of subject! As a producer on this set, I'm very keen to know what people think of the clips. What score that you haven't heard are you most looking forward to, based on the samples? OK. Unfortunately, the best clips were the ones from scores I was already familiar with, like NEVADA SMITH, THE FURIES, EL DORADO, and WILL PENNY. But they were clips of cues from the original album (except the title song from EL DORADO), so I didn't get much indication of what some of the previously unreleased music sounded like. The clips from the scores I was unfamiliar with seemed chosen mostly for their...um, how do I put this? Blandness? They didn't seem particularly interesting and I can't help but feel they were not the most exciting or interesting cues from the scores. In the grand scheme, this is a minor quibble, and I wouldn't even mention it except for being asked. I really didn't need to hear the clips before instantly purchasing it and knowing I will love it for the four scores I know. I was curious about the unfamiliar scores but didn't get much sense of them. Of course, someone with no familiarity of any of the scores ought to be impressed, There is some dynamite music here.

You are a bit wrong about this. On the former LPs from 1966 and 1967 both NEVADA SMITH and EL DORADO were album re-recordings and of course these are not on this CD set. Above all with NEVADA SMITH it is so obvious that the orchestra is much larger and the music is also more dramatic on the original recording we will get now for the first time ever on this Western set. The orchestra size for the tracks on the album was smaller and many pieces were differently orchestrated, some even got a slight pop and country & western touch according to the fashion of the time of the mid-60s. The original recording is much better and I have waited for it for a long time. "An Eye for an Eye" from WILL PENNY had dialogue and sound effects throughout on the former LP and was taken directly from the film´s soundtrack. So that track without dialogue has never been released before.

I'm thrilled that we are getting the original recordings, with larger orchestrations etc. And without the dialog in the WILL PENNY cue, etc. This is almost a dream come true. I've longed for an EL DORADO CD that has the original song with the George Alexander vocals. This is a miracle release. I'm simply commenting on the choice of samples. Release of the year IMHO
