'Menace and Rescue' by Alfred Schnittke from Rikki Tikki Tavi. Incredibly thrilling chase music, and awesome recording by Frank Strobel. It starts to ramp up around 1:00. Some of Alfred Schnittke's film scores are somewhat underrated.

I saw the 1975 Breakout for the first time this week. A bit of a programmer with a good cast, not quite an action classic - but when Goldsmith's music explodes early on in this cue, it briefly reaches a level of bliss:

'Menace and Rescue' by Alfred Schnittke from Rikki Tikki Tavi.

Thank you, Lattanzi, for linking this flavorful piece. I've never associated Schnittke with "movie chase" music before!

I was trying to find the "Monte Alone" cue, but this will do:

We all know the main theme and "Can You Read My Mind" from Williams' score to the Donner directed Superman; here's a lesser-known scherzo cue I've always cherished:

An example of 1990s swash and buckle that I had heard about then, but only listened to for the first time this week:

Sheena end titles - Richard Hartley.

This sounds like Chariots of Fire might've been the temp track, but Hartley made it all his own. A surprisingly melancholy end to an underrated action/comedy/drama. Was this movie underrated because people didn't get the tongue-in-cheek tone?

^ - A good reminder that I need to rewatch some of Tim Burton's Halloween classics this fall.

For today, a peaceful, tranquil track. I've yet to see Waterworld itself, but I quite like its score.

A new composer for me is Federico Jusid who scored the marvelous Amazon series The English.

The Morrow, from Gattaca.

Thank you, Michael Nyman, for this haunting score.

(A huge non-thank you to fate for not gifting me with a girlfriend who looks like Uma Thurman)
