Will we have soundtrack album for this one on CD? Maybe Varese again? From the other habd - what was their last CD with CURRENT release? Looks like they working with their own library, and no new movies/series...
We've certainly moved well away from the era when Varese would release dozens of scores for new releases every year, including the biggest blockbusters. I blame streaming and the fact that studios can just release this stuff themselves. Oh and, probably, the absence of Robert Townson.
I thought this was another weak effort tbh. Ready or Not was such a fun score...shame.
I don't think the score is bad. In fact, some parts are quite good, but the problem is, every note of this score has been done before. Literally every screeching string I was thinking "Didn't I hear this back in the 90s?"
The scores lacks any kind of freshness, and with six installments, you definitely want to be a bit unconventional.
I hate to be mean, but I think Brian Tyler is one of the last composers I would consider for "a fresh approach." I used to be a huge fan of his work but unfortunately I find him to be one of the most "auto pilot composers" of all time.
I didn't actually notice the score in the new film (which is no more than average). I do remember that with Scream 5 I mostly noticed how similar in style it was to Beltrami's and, sampling tracks from all five films on YouTube, I couldn't really tell whose they were. For the new score I can't even be bothered to YT it.
I don't know if it's just because I've been listening to The Faculty all week, but I really feel it's been a downhill slope with the Scream scores after Scream 3. The 4th one had enjoyable moments but still just wasn't the same.
Now with Scream 5 and 6, I'm wishing they're were at the very least closer to Scream 4. The new scores feel like they're just kind of "there." Nothing is all that thematic or interesting making them feel like unmemorable filler. But maybe my opinion will change once I hear the score for 6 in the actual movie vs just on its own.

I agree, it started around 2010. He's methodology became commercialized and I just can't find the passion in his scores anymore. At least not more than a cue here and there.
In the inimitable words of Margo Channing: "Who needs to fear AI when we've already got Brian Tyler".
Brian is a really talented composer. You just have to look at his earlier work. I think what happens though like with Bear Mccreary they start to take on lots of projects, bring in ghost composers and they don't really give things much attention.

Yeah I've loved a lot of his earlier stuff. Now it just feels lacking. Which is weird to me because in the Score documentary he seemed so passionate. But maybe he's just focusing on his DJ stuff more now.
