“ALWAYS: LIMITED EDITION” Music by John Williams Limited Edition of 3500 Units RETAIL PRICE: $21.98 STARTS SHIPPING JUNE 30 La-La Land Records, Universal Pictures, Amblin Entertainment and Geffen proudly present a Limited Edition remastered and expanded CD reissue of John Williams’ (JAWS, E.T., SCHINDLER’S LIST) original score to the 1989 feature film ALWAYS, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Richard Dreyfuss, Holly Hunter and John Goodman. Williams’ sumptuous orchestral score gives this touching story of timeless love and miracles an irresistible dreamlike quality -- lifting and carrying the film, and its audience, on a musical wind that soars them into a timeless, romantically blissful realm. Maestro Williams also raises the stakes of the film’s riveting firefighting sequences with the kind of expert dramatic action cues that are his trademark. Produced and mastered from studio vault elements by Mike Matessino, and approved by the composer and the director, this expanded CD is limited to 3500 Units and includes never-before-released material and exclusive, in depth liner notes also written by Matessino. The soaring art design is by Jim Titus. So this will be up for sale noon time L.A/USA time...YES? Which will be around 7PM in the UK. Am I right? (it's not there now cos I just checked). So these price hikes are going to be permanent? $40 for A.I.? Ouch.

Well, I doubt the studios are lowering their prices for access to their stuff. And it has been roughly $20 for a (single) disc since for over 20 years now. If you want them to stay in business and keep releasing new stuff... I wonder what would be too much so that people would push back? $5 extra for a single disc? $10 for a double-disc?

If you want them to stay in business and keep releasing new stuff... I wonder what would be too much so that people would push back? $5 extra for a single disc? $10 for a double-disc? This is the reality of what is essentially a dwindling business model. Physical CD production is already ending, so now you're talking soundtrack CDs which is an niche within a niche. Do you want to LLL to stay in business? If yes, then deal with higher prices. If no, then find a cheaper hobby. You going to be okay?

If ALWAYS was $30 for this single disc (maybe Universal were being greedy to LLL) I'd still buy it, cos I really want it. Not wrong.

Its John Williams. His releases always cost more. I guess starting with this release, yes they do. And I guess Jerry Goldsmith starting with CaboBlanco.

The price of these CDs has actually gone down, quite significantly. Arguably, this limited edition soundtrack model began in 1998 with FSM's first release, Stagecoach. That cost $19.95 twenty-three years ago. But the value of a dollar fluctuates. Adjusting for inflation, that CD cost the equivalent of $32.95 in 2021 dollars. Whether you want to pay the $22 for Always is up to you, of course. But let's not suggest there's been an outrageous price hike here, because in real terms, the opposite is true. Actually it goes back earlier than that...Varese with their club in the late '80s with Cherry 2000 for $19.99 and Intrada the year before with First Blood in the FMT limited series also at $19.99. So decades of no accounting for inflation. And the audience has gotten smaller.

Actually it goes back earlier than that... When I said "arguably," I didn't mean you should argue with it! "arguably"....thems fighting words. If we were in person I would take off my glove and slap you across the face with it.
