Oh, that's funny Jurassic T! You see, Extreme Prejudice has always been one of my least favorite Goldsmith scores (based on the very old LLL expansion anyway...I think the new Intrada program moving the synth rescore stuff out of the main program will really improve the score as a listening experience for me). I have always liked the end credits cue but most of the rest of the score has always been a slog for me (in contrast to Sleepy Hollow which is one of my favorite Elfman scores). That said, the Soundtrack Spotlight podcast episode (https://goldsmithodyssey.buzzsprout.com/159614/8913325-odyssey-soundtrack-spotlight-extreme-prejudice-1987) which Jens and David did with Doug Fake and John Takis (I had nothing to do with it except for offering some editing notes) has kinda sold me on the score and I look forward to revisiting the new Intrada complete edition! I think there's a good chance I will finally be won over, just like the Quartet edition of Total Recall finally helped me to click with that beloved score which had left me cold for so many years. I suspect I also really just need to see the film Extreme Prejudice to appreciate what the score was written for in context. Yavar

Oh wow Yavar, it's funny then that this wasn't really one of your favorites! I've never seen the film and I only just listened to the samples which sounded a bit silly with synths like lesser Rambo copycats, but it sounded unique enough and there were some interesting sections that made me think it could be worthwhile, especially stuff that sounds similar to "Total Recall", and I always love listening to "origin" scores. You also just reminded me that I have Quartet's "Total Recall" sitting unopened in my cabinet. I have a backlog of CDs I haven't yet transferred and listened to as I ordered a ton at once. When I'm purchasing stuff I'm anticipating like "Sleepy Hollow", I usually throw in another CD or two to help with shipping and catch up on stuff that has been on my "maybe" list for a while.

Is there anything from the Burton/Elfman box set missing from here?
The USB stick included in the Elfman / Burton box contained a Sleepy Hollow track called "Themes (Demo)" which was his original demo for the score. That isn't on this set, unless it's an unlisted easter egg that isn't factored into the "total time" sums.

Oh lord, please demo … be hiding as a bonus so this can be the nearest we know of to a close the book on it release.

I do not recall an Intrada CD ever having an unlisted bonus track before

I ordered this as quickly as I could. $39.99 for a 4-disc set is great, especially from a site like Intrada which has great shipping rates and gives you Bonus Points for every purchase you make. I will also put it this way: it's only $15 more than Varese's 2-disc complete set for "The Matrix" which doesn't contain any alternates or the original album, it's the same price as Varese's SACD 2-disc version of "The Matrix", and it has infinitely better artwork that doesn't look like a cheap bootleg.

Oh lord, please demo … be hiding as a bonus so this can be the nearest we know of to a close the book on it release. They usually don't include demo tracks period, right? Most releases out there have demo tracks that will never see light of day, and their releases are "complete" regardless... Well, when you word it "usually", no they don't, but it has happened before on their label. You know, I'm thinking this is a four-disc set -- unlikely any label will want to re-issue that again. Combine that with any separate releases of what was on the Elf-box should have all the Elf-box extras so that it becomes redundant and us wee folk out here don't have to fork over the big Elf-bucks to get the Elf-box for a few bonus tracks … I just wish for the demos to make it there when possible/reasonable/room permitting.

While rummaging through old editions of FSM, I came upon this gem: Elfman’s latest teaming with director Tim Burton is a visual feast that’s drenched in meticulous, gothic atmosphere; but the disjointed story and nonexistent character relationships produced a score from Elfman that is all luxurious ornamentation with no themes to grab onto. —J.B. I wonder if J.B. will re-assess the score in a fashion similar to what he did with the nineties Jerry Goldsmith scores.

Just for clarificaion (just in case): I am not the J.B. who wrote that above so long ago.

I ordered this along with "THE WIND" which is on pre-order so I'll likely have to wait until "THE WIND" arrives before the whole shipment is sent. Only as fast as the slowest arrival.

The album is so lavish isn’t it?

I don't have the score for Sleepy Hollow in any version, so this seems to be the way to go and rectify that.

Interesting, Elfman is credited with "2021 CD Produced by". I hope this is an indication of his interest in a similarly exhaustive presentation of his other scores. This new Intrada edition is almost like getting 3 Elfman scores at once. You couldn't ask for more.
