or indiegogo, the Kritzerland fundings used it and it works fine

I've used Kickstarter only once, and while it was successful, I didn't really care for it, whereas Indiegogo, for me at least, has been great and easy as pie to use. I'll be doing two Indiegogos, one very soon that won't be of interest to anyone here, and the other by the end of the year, which will. That said, the one that's coming shortly will have some perks that may be of interest smile

For anyone who's still somehow on the fence about supporting this (for so little money, as Martin points out!), Leigh has just provided a third and final enticing sample of the "Sarah's Laughter" score, music Jerry Goldsmith wrote for the series in late 1959 (the episode aired January 3, 1960, two days after his first Twilight Zone) which apparently only survives in written form today:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/129592672/the-bar-mitzvah-of-major-orlovsky-jerry-goldsmith/posts/3514151

The cue is titled "Birthday Present", and it's a nice little gift for us to receive as the campaign is nearing its (very successful) end!

However, you cant help overlook that yes, it's been funded, but only by 144 people.
Considering the first pledge is just £3. Only 144 people can find a minimum of £3 ?

That's kinda depressing

A lot of people flat out don't do Kickstarter. Add onto that these are obscure TV (rather than film) scores that they've never heard, and unlike say previous KS run by well known lables (Tadlow and Intrada) this is run by someone who they may not have heard of (yes, despite his name is attached to many of the rerecordings, a lot of people may not pay attention to that). Add onto THAT the fact they aren't full orchestral pieces, and then add on to THAT the number of people who want CDs and not just digital files....it's not surprising the backer count is pretty low.
The Black Patch/Man KS got 495 backers, over three times as much yes but that's for a CD by a well known label of fully orchestral scores.

I agree with all your reasoning, TerraEpon. I would add that once the project funded (which it did pretty quickly), surely some people saw no particular reason to contribute.

Yes, probably all these factor in, which is why it made sense to start this way, as the Kickstarter was obviously a success. I wondered myself whether or not to contribute, as it was already funded anyway. (In the end I did, I want to hear this.)

Less than two hours to go!

Interesting to get confirmation of the Kickstarter phenomenon where, once something is funded (including stretch goals), people feel less inclined to add their own money.

I suppose it says something about having more and more stretch goals as I've never seen one where it just flatlined like that.

Is anyone here watching the livestream for the recording right now? "Bar Mitzvah" began recording a little too early for me to tune in live (6am my time), but I'm listening to them record some of "Sarah's Laughter" right now, and goodness this is a wonderful score...really comes alive with real strings.

I was able to watch the first hour before leaving for work and recorded the audio to CD-RW.
I left the second hour to record to a second CD-RW.
After 41 years in practice, I'm retiring after today, so I had better show up!!
Now I have the second half to listen to when I get home, audio only.
I saw our own W. David Lichty online there from the midwest and also Volken Hannemann from Germany, who I met at Smecky Studios during the KING OF KINGS recording sessions. A nice effort all around for some "personal" music. No explosions or helicopter chases to distract.

Thanks to Leigh, again.
(He conducted with his hands, like Keith Lockhart. No baton for him.)

Major congrats on your retirement, my friend! (I guess I should start corresponding with you more often, now that I know your 60+ hour work weeks are a thing of the past! wink )

Congratulations on your retirement, Ron! Maybe we'll meet again sometime for another recording session...

Leigh has posted a 1:09 clip of him conducting "The Bar Mitzvah of Major Orlovsky" earlier today and it is just. so. gorgeous.

Listen to this and try and tell me it isn't:

Maybe not "gorgeous" but certainly pretty.

He said the orchestra would be small, but it's an even smaller ensemble than I thought (would deign to call it a large chamber ensemble at least for what's shown).

Still, it's crazy to see how quickly this all turned around. Great success for sure.

In anticipation, with music:

New Goldsmith music is just around the corner, and we have a new production report to fill you in on all the details! With the aid of his Kickstarter backers, Leigh Phillips has created two new recordings of previously unreleased Goldsmith scores written for The General Electric Theatre: “The Bar Mitzvah of Major Orlovsky” (which foreshadows such Jewish-themed Goldsmith works as QBVII and Masada) and “Sarah’s Laughter” (a tender, yet surprisingly complex, score marked by striking harmonica passages). Leigh joins your humble hosts David, Yavar, and Clark to talk about the origins of the project, the fundraising process, the challenges of reconstructing “Major Orlovsky”, recording the music with members of the City of Prague Philharmonic, mixing the music, and much more! Naturally, you’ll be treated to some choice excerpts of the new music along the way. Whether you’re a Kickstarter backer who’s eager for more details on the project or simply a casually curious listener, we think there’s much to enjoy here. So give the show a listen, and get ready for the arrival of two wonderful television scores!

This is one of my favorite episodes of The Goldsmith Odyssey, and Leigh graciously allowed us to include a lot of samples from the new recording of these two superb scores...if you didn't participate in the Kickstarter but want to hear some of this music sooner than a month from now, give this a listen!

That’s a bummer of timing, Terra! Sorry to hear that. I think all backers got “Bar Mitzvah” early this morning. Looking forward to hearing what people think of it. To me it’s an absolute gem, one of Goldsmith’s greatest scores for episodic television.

Have listened to it through several times today since receiving it. Lovely but all too brief - you find that you get swept away and it's all over all too soon.

A wonderful recording of a fantastic performance. Looking forward both to the next score in a few days and hopefully further kickstarters for more.

Terrific and highly recommended.
